Overview
Working within the strategy set by Lakehead’s partner relations committee, as a Specialist, Employer Relations & Industry Partnerships, you will build meaningful relationships and partnerships connecting early career talent with workplaces in Ontario.
Responsibilities
- Support employment outcomes for Lakehead students and graduates by building and maintaining effective partnerships with employers across all industries in assigned geographic territories - this includes direct outreach via telephone, email, digital (social media platforms) and in-person at industry events and in the community
- Working with a team of student-facing colleagues, provide student-centred employment-related advising to students, and assist job seekers with introductions to hiring managers in partner organizations, working creatively to encourage partners to build opportunities in addition to taking advantage of advertised roles
- Work with employer partners to develop appropriate career and co-op opportunities for students and graduates, negotiating terms of employment opportunities to ensure alignment with academic co-operative education requirements, ensuring meaningful learning opportunities, and providing guidance regarding appropriate compensation for student and graduate talent
- Conduct “site monitor” visits to ensure students are thriving and learning in their co-op experience. Support employers and students with mediation of issues and ongoing coaching with respect to student performance in the workplace, and bring input from employer partners back to campus to share with academic leaders designing curriculum to meet the needs of industry.
- Organize employment-related events and career exploration events on and off campus for students, alumni, and partners
- Maintain accurate records for individual appointments, meetings, and student and partner interactions,
- Represent the University in the community and in digital forums (Linked in, zoom and other online platforms), at industry events, conferences, workshops and other community-based initiatives, acting as a spokesperson or guest speaker as opportunities arrive and watching for opportunities to deepen relationships with employers
- Receive a designated industry and geographic portfolio and work to meet or exceed targets for key performance indicators such as employment outcomes for students, satisfaction expressed by partners, and repeat business from previous employers of students engaged in co-op.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in human resources or field related to the duties of the position, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience leading within employment services settings
- A minimum of three years experience in career development, employment counselling, job development, sales and marketing, talent recruitment, or other directly transferable work environment
- Must be willing to work a primarily remote role and have the ability to travel to the assigned campus location one day per week; Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle to travel to occasional offsite meetings within Ontario.
- Demonstrated and highly developed relationship building and networking skills and ability to adjust mode of communication for required audiences and environments
- Exceptional customer services skills, solutions-oriented approach and genuine desire to contribute to the success of students, graduates, and community partners
- Ability to develop and maintain detailed understanding of labour market conditions in a number of industries, credibility when discussing potential career paths, competencies associated with various credentials, and familiarity with diverse forms of employment according to specific industry setting
- Prior experience working with confidential information in a competitive landscape, and maintaining records within an enterprise CRM system
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with ability to move multiple projects forward simultaneously
- Capable of working with data and understanding labour market trends, capable public speaker and facilitator of meetings and/or presentations for groups of all sizes
- Proficient with Google Office Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, online meeting platforms such as Zoom, Teams, Google Meet
- Ability to work outside of regular business hours when required
- Demonstrated alignment with Lakehead’s commitment to truth and reconciliation, access, inclusion and belonging, and able to articulate how equity issues in employment differ according to specific demographics and socio-economic barriers
Additional Assets
- CHRP, CDP or other designation typically associated with human resources or career development professionals
- Previous experience working in talent recruitment & retention, sales, marketing or similarly goal-oriented roles
- Understanding of how post-secondary institutions partner with industry in support of thriving economies.
