Position Summary
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Applied Science, Skills and Technology, the Manager, Apprenticeships supports the planning, coordination, and administration of Loyalist College’s apprenticeship programs. This role ensures compliance with Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) requirements and Skilled Trades Ontario (STO). This position strengthens employer and Training Delivery Agent (TDA) relationships, and supports apprentice recruitment, journeyperson professor hiring and performance development, and financial tracking related to apprenticeship delivery and capital funding.
The Manager, Apprenticeships enhances Loyalist College’s capacity as a Training Delivery Agent by providing dedicated administrative and operational support for all apprenticeship activity.
Duties and Responsibilities
Employer & Industry Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employers to promote apprenticeship programs.
- Lead outreach initiatives to increase participation in high-demand trades.
- Serve as a primary contact for employers on apprentice registration, training pathways, and scheduling.
- Support seat utilization to optimize funding and minimize unused capacity.
Apprentice Recruitment & Program Support
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies for traditional and non-traditional trades.
- Coordinate apprentice intake and provide ongoing communication and support.
- Address apprentice concerns related to training, scheduling, and program requirements.
- Ensure programs align with evolving technology and STO curriculum updates.
Faculty Recruitment & Development
- Support recruitment and onboarding of journeyperson faculty.
- Ensure credential verification and compliance with ministry requirements.
- Assist in performance development and adherence to apprenticeship standards.
- Partnerships, Compliance & Curriculum Coordination
- Liaise with TDAs, MLITSD, and STO to support program delivery and compliance.
- Coordinate curriculum reviews, program standards meetings, and advisory committees.
- Maintain accurate records of apprentice progression and curriculum delivery.
- Prepare reports on program performance for leadership.
Operational & Administrative Leadership
- Oversee scheduling, enrollment planning, and program capacity across multiple trades.
- Manage apprenticeship faculty and technical support staff.
- Track financial activity including capital funding, grants, and program revenue.
- Collaborate with Finance and Academic leadership to ensure accurate reporting.
- Support contract management, ministry correspondence, and program agreements.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and promote a safe work environment.
Qualifications
- completion of a 3-year diploma in a related field
- Ontario Certificate of Apprenticeship and Certificate of Qualification
- Minimum 5 years of related experience, including apprentice registration in Ontario
- Leadership experience, ideally in a unionized environment
- Experience in budgeting, project management, and stakeholder engagement
- Strong understanding of apprenticeship systems, MLITSD, and skilled trades Ontario
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex operations
- Experience with partnership development, contract management, and reporting
- Knowledge of RFP/RFQ processes considered an asset
