About this position
Load Control Agents are responsible for load planning and weight and balance calculations, sometimes acting as local operations agents and assisting with cargo duties.
Level: As per the UNIFOR Collective Agreement.
Pay Rate: Starting at $21.50 per hour, in accordance with the UNIFOR Collective Agreement, or commensurate with experience. Employees are also eligible for a Northern Living Allowance of $5.14 per hour. In addition, candidates fluent in Inuktut will receive a language premium of $2.00 per hour.
Reporting to: Manager, Cargo & Ramp
Duties and Responsibilities
Interested candidates should be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- Follow the companies Standard Operating Procedures without deviation;
- Promote a safe working culture;
- Load/unload aircraft;
- Provide services to the aircraft on the ground as required;
- Assist Customer Service Agents and/or Cargo Attendants if so required ;
- Assist passengers with mobility and special needs;
- Perform commissary duties as part of the specialized work function;
- Completion of daily vehicle/equipment checklist;
- Required to be qualified and maintain qualification on all ramp equipment;
- Perform other duties and functions related to the foregoing;
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent related work experience
- One (1) year of previous experience
- Must be knowledgeable of cargo handling and processing procedures;
- Knowledge and experience of loading and load control on company aircraft;
- Weight & balance knowledge and experience necessary;
- Knowledge of Canadian North’s Cargo Computer Program, Cargo Ramp Procedures Manual and Sabre;
- Must be familiar with handling of dangerous goods and be able to obtain and retain a dangerous goods handling certificate;
- Must hold a valid G2 or G (Class 5) driver’s license;
- Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, problem solving & interpersonal skills;
- Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in high pressure, high volume environment;
- Forklift driving experience an asset;
- Must be able to obtain and retain a D/A level airport pass;
- Ability to communicate in Inuktitut a definite asset;
- Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
Please note: Relocation assistance is not available for this position. The successful candidate must be located in Yellowknife, NWT.
Please note: This job entails irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and shift work. Shift schedules will be bid in order of seniority. As a result, we cannot provide you with a schedule around your current job, school schedule, activities, etc. You are however able to shift trade with your colleagues- but you are responsible for the shifts that you are scheduled.
