The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) is one of BC’s largest corporations and one of Canada’s largest property and casualty (P&C) insurers. We have 5,000 employees working with 3 million customers and business partners including 900 independent brokers and agents province-wide.

The Digital team is responsible for the development and sustainment of customer and partner-facing solutions, with a focus on web and mobile app applications. This includes full stack development, managing customer data and interaction solutions, maintaining efficient development pipelines, and providing foundational services that ensure reliability, scalability, and security.

As an intermediate QA on our team, you will take on an integral role in building the testing practice and automation for online applications our customers and partners use on a daily basis. You will have a chance to use your skills and knowledge in the areas of best testing practices for web and mobile experiences.

As an intermediate QA Analyst, you will be responsible for:

  • Develop and lead testing efforts and automated test creation, report on testing status and progress, and create test strategies and plans for functional, integration, and user acceptance testing for various Digital solutions spanning multiple technology platforms.
  • Identify test objectives, and develop and execute test plans.
  • Participate in user story definition, analyze requirements, and partner with developers to gain understanding of the systems and changes under test.
  • Write user acceptance criteria requirements in a structured fashion amenable to automated testing; creates and executes automated acceptance test.
  • Identify and report on defects and risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of business stakeholders, business systems analysts, and developers on root cause analysis and resolution for complex defects.
  • Help set and maintain test automation standards for the Digital department.
  • Maintain test harnesses according to ICBC testing guidelines and standards.
  • Provide guidance and training to other team members.

Position Requirements

This position will require 3-5 years of relevant hands-on experience in the domain of agile software testing or a combination of relevant post-secondary education and related business experience. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Solid understanding and hands on experience with use of test tools and in building test automation (e.g. JIRA, Zephyr, Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, SOAP UI, Postman, Karate etc.), SPLUNK, ITSM tools (e.g. HPSM, ServiceNow).
  • Experience building a project test strategy from scratch, including effort estimations and timelines.
  • Experience writing test strategies, test plans, traceability matrixes, and detailed test reports.
  • Ability to review and adapt test strategies and plans written by others.
  • Experience with various testing methodologies (e.g. risk-based testing, regression testing, end-to-end testing, smoke testing, and both manual and automated test experience and script creation).
  • Experience with defect management in JIRA, including initial defect logging, and retesting and regression testing after fixes.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle (SDLC) and DevOps practices.
  • Experience in conducting impact analysis in an enterprise environment for Digital web and mobile solutions.
  • Experience conducting production support activities, including incident, problem, and change management.

The following technical qualifications are also included in the role:

  • Experience in building automated test scripts, in Java, .NET / C# Python, Javascript, React, Rush, JQuery and/or Go.
  • Database experience sufficient to write and execute SQL queries for testing purposes.
  • Experience troubleshooting based on Dynatrace and Splunk logs, or equivalent logging platforms.
  • Experience with DevOps CI/CD tools and platforms including GitLab and GitHub, Podman, OpenShift.
  • Experience with AWS and/or Vercel cloud environments.
  • Experience with the Contentful content management platform is an asset.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting operational platforms like F5 Firewall, Cloudflare, OpenShift is also an asset.

Work arrangements defined

Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
