Health Shared Services (HSS) needs someone like you to join our HSS Information & Privacy team as part of the Privacy Business Advisory team. HSS recognizes that to ensure the protection of health, personal and business information there is a reliance on our people having the confidence to handle information in the best interests of our patients, employees and the organizations. A part of the Legal & Privacy Portfolio, the Information & Privacy team promotes the protection of privacy and access to information throughout the 11 organizations it serves, enabling staff to apply privacy principles in their daily work to ensure that our patients’ personal and health information is protected.
The Intake and Privacy Advisor role is a professional position that reports to the Director of ATIA and Privacy Business Advisory. Working under limited guidance, this multifaceted role combines both intake and privacy advisory responsibilities. It provides strategic guidance and subject matter expertise on moderately complex access and privacy matters under the Access to Information Act (ATIA), the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and the Health Information Act (HIA) across all supported organizations. These matters include, but are not limited to, access to information requests, Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), privacy breaches, disclosures of information, data matching and transfer, and quality improvement initiatives. The role is also responsible for triaging and escalating more complex issues to Senior Privacy Business Advisors, and assign work to the Privacy Investigations Advisors as appropriate. The position supports the monitoring and review of audit logs from clinical information systems such as Connect Care and Netcare. This role also serves as a backup and surge resource for the Information Access Services (IAS) team, supporting personal access requests under ATIA and law enforcement disclosures under POPA. The position demands excellent judgment, emotional resilience, and strong strategic thinking and communication skills to effectively address complex and sensitive access and privacy matters. The individual will engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including staff within client organizations, senior leadership, and members of the public. This position is a provincial position that may qualify for hybrid or remote working arrangements. The incumbent must be able to attend AHS sites in either Edmonton or Calgary for in-person meetings.

Required Qualifications
A minimum of five (5) years related Information & Privacy experience in private and/or public sector environment or in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. A working knowledge of information privacy principles with specific knowledge of Alberta’s Access to Information Act (ATIA), Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and Health Information Act (HIA) or other similar public information access and privacy legislation is required. A University Degree in Law, Information Management, Political Science, Business/Public Administration, Health Sciences or related discipline. Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year experience for one year education.
Additional Required Qualifications
Ability to analyze varied and complex situations, direct and implement action, and follow up as required; conduct legal research, and understand, interpret, and apply legislative requirements is essential. This experience should demonstrate the ability to manage complex/multi-faceted access & privacy issues and triage significantly complex matters. Demonstrated strong judgement, resilience, and flexibility to adject to changing priorities, ability to use initiative, take responsibility, be proactive and work in a complex environment. Proven customer service, relationship building & networking skills, critical thinking, effective problem solving, organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail attention to detail are necessary. Concern resolution skills – ability to negotiate with, and handle/mediate, querulous and/or harassing individuals, as well as sensitive corporate and legal issues. Experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications
CIAPP, CIPP/C, CIPM Designation. Completion of the University of Alberta IAPP Program. Knowledge of how Health Shared Services functions in relations to all the new health system organizations. Experience using Service Now and/or ATIPXpress. Experience in processing ATIA access to information requests and completing privacy breach investigations.
