Health & Safety Specialist at RST Sunbury Transport
The role Health & Safety Specialist plays a key part in ensuring regulatory compliance, promoting safe work practices, and supporting employees through coaching, training, and incident response.
Salary Range: $55,000 - $75,000
Responsibilities
- Provide coaching and guidance to drivers on safe work practices, Hours of Service (HOS), and regulatory compliance
- Respond to driver inquiries related to ELD systems, safety policies, and procedures
- Conduct regular site visits, yard inspections, and safety observations to identify hazards and ensure compliance
- Perform audits of driver logbooks and safety documentation to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements
- Monitor safety performance metrics and implement corrective actions, including performance development plans
- Support and maintain safety programs, including fall protection inspections, renewals, and compliance tracking
- Coordinate and facilitate safety meetings, training sessions, and safety-focused group discussions across operational teams
- Administer drug and alcohol testing programs, including pre-employment, random, and post-incident testing in compliance with applicable standards
- Conduct incident and accident investigations, including on-site response, root cause analysis, reporting, and follow-up actions
- Support employee wellness, return-to-work, and safety engagement programs
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related field
- 3–5 years’ experience in a safety role, preferably in transportation settings
- Working knowledge of transportation regulations (HOS, ELD compliance, USDOT standards)
- Experience with incident investigations and safety auditing
