Part-time By-law Enforcement Officer, Saint John, NB
Commissionaires NBPEI is looking to hire a qualified and responsible team member to work part-time, possibly leading to full-time, By-law Enforcement Officer in Saint John, NB.
THE ROLE
The Part-time By-law Enforcement Officer is a new position with our client, the city of Saint John. The officer is responsible for ensuring that the applicable by-laws of the city of Saint John are properly adhered to, travel around the municipality to educate the public and take appropriate measures with non-compliance.
Hours of Work: 20 hours per week, combination of days, evenings and weekends
Rate of Pay: $20.46 per hour

RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Respond to public inquiries in a timely, courteous and professional manner
§ Prioritize, investigate and resolve complaints related to by-laws keeping clear logs
§ Emphasize education and voluntary compliance only escalating to warnings or action when necessary
§ Conduct both scheduled and reactive inspections throughout the municipality as required
§ Maintain detailed, accurate records of all enforcement activity and submit monthly reports
§ When necessary, attend court and provide testimony supported with documentation and professionalism
§ Work in coordination with municipal staff, emergency services and external agencies for a collaborative approach to by-law enforcement
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of five years of relevant work experience, ideally in enforcement, municipal operations, public safety, or a related field
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills, maintain tact, diplomacy and courtesy with the public and municipal staff
- Interpret and apply municipal by-laws accurately and consistently with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and problem solve to meet operational objectives
- Maintain confidentiality while remaining calm and professional in stressful situations
- Able to successfully complete all online training
- Clean criminal record and have a Valid class 5 Driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract Comfortable with technology and learning new systems
