Position Summary
Reporting to the Coordinator, Recreation, the part-time Youth Engagement Leader position is responsible for the delivery of quality services, youth programs, and initiatives for youth 13 – 18 years of age including but not limited to Youth Centre’s youth drop-in programming and outreach located in urban and
rural Milton. Successful candidates must be able to work variable hours. The youth program will operate indoors and outdoors, primarily between the hours of 3:00 pm to 8:30 pm. May include weekends.
Major Job Responsibilities
Responsible for the opening and closing of the Youth Space
Develop and promote schedules for youth programs including Youth Centre drop-in activities, food security, gym activities, and organized programs (i.e. yoga)
Supervise and engage youth at all times and create meaningful connections
Incorporate and model positive youth development through tools and relationship building within program delivery
Maintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement
Perform cleaning and general space maintenance functions as required
Actively work to prevent accidents, enforce rules, and educate youth about safe behaviour in program areas while adhering to all established departmental safety standards and practices
Responsible for contacting emergency services and providing supports or referrals to youth social services when appropriate
Collect statistical data relating to the number of youth who enter the Youth Space, the resources they use, and document which, if any, outreach/community support programs and services were suggested to the youth
Education & Experience
Working towards the completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in: Education, Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Youth Services, Recreation & Leisure program or related field is considered an asset
Two (2) years related experience working with and planning activities for youth
Skilled in relating to and interacting with youth aged 13 – 18 years.
Excellent with problem-solving and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment
Ability to ensure a high level of confidentiality is maintained
Standard First Aid and CPR C required
Safe Food Handling Certification preferred
Mental Health First Aid and/or Behaviour Management Systems Training (BMS) or equivalent, and/or ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training or equivalent is preferred
Access to transportation to travel between work locations in a timely manner is required as the successful candidate may be required to travel between sites
In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, this position requires the incumbent to submit a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening upon employment at their own expense
