Job Profile

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Facilities - Operations, the Building Operations Assistant is responsible for the daily maintenance and safe operations of civic and recreational facilities, including indoor and outdoor pools. This position will be a keystone in commissioning and maintaining our new Recreation Complex at 655 Wesley Ave along with our other facilities.

What you will be doing

  • Conducts routine inspections on pool equipment and chemical systems, complete testing and maintain logs throughout the course of the day
  • Performs day-to-day repairs and maintenance required in buildings, including responding to work orders
  • Performs program set-up, tear-down
  • Completes weekly/monthly inspections in building maintenance and regulatory fire and life safety testing
  • Performs outdoor and indoor pool opening/closing duties
  • Performing grounds keeping and building maintenance duties

Education

  • Grade 12 OSS Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Pool and Spa Operator Certificate
  • Valid G Driver’s License
  • Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) – Building Operations Course, Certified Building Technician Designation, Certified Aquatic Technician Designation, Certified Ice Technician Designation considered as assets
  • 2-year certificate program in Building Environmental Systems Operator Class 1 and Class 2 considered an asset

Experience and Knowledge

One to two years of previous work-related experience relating to:

  • Knowledge and skills for pool chemistry obtained through hands-on experience and education
  • Building operations
  • Building maintenance and understanding of building components throughout the various buildings of the portfolio
  • Teamwork, to promote the smooth running and success of facilities.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations
  • Personable allowing for excellent customer service

Current and valid Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.

Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.

Valid G driver's license.

Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. (may be obtained post offer)

Your compensation

This position is within Grade 6 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an hourly range of $37.56 to $39.94. Comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, travel benefits; long term disability; accidental death and dismemberment and life insurance. Enrolment in Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).

Hours of work

This position works 35 hours per week, with rotating shifts, including days, afternoons and weekends in accordance with the collective agreement.

Hours of work are currently under review and may be subject to change.
