What you’ll do

• Work with a multi-discipline team of 14 engineering and geoscience professionals to deliver cost-effective solutions for BC Hydro's operations and capital programs on existing hydroelectric facilities and reservoir slopes.

• Act as Resident Engineer to lead site exploration programs, rock slope/tunnel stabilization projects and other construction projects. This will involve travel and potentially long shifts of field work at remote sites.

• Be responsible for planning and coordination of site exploration programs, development of geological models, site characterization, landslide stability assessment and supervising and/or conducting engineering analyses (stability analysis, seepage, rockfall analysis).

• Carry out engineering inspections and assessment of slopes and tunnels to review potential instabilities and hazards.

• Carry out Engineering Design Work including tunnel and slope stabilization, rockfall protection, geotechnical instrumentation and rock quarry design.

• Prepare technical reports, working design basis, design memorandum, engineering drawings and other project documentation

• Provide oversight to project work of assigned internal (BC Hydro) staff and Consultants and review completed work to ensure accuracy and adherence to accepted engineering practice and achievement of project objectives.

• Provide support/assistance to other disciplines and personnel, including structural engineering, hydrotechnical engineering, surveillance, construction management, project management, plant operation, procurement, and other stakeholders.

• Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal (BC Hydro) staff and Consultants.

• Act as Owner's Engineer representing BC Hydro's interests and project oversight of project work completed by the consultants by reviewing functional requirements, developing terms of reference, establishing a review process, checking, reviewing and commissioning to demonstrate that the work meets functional and project requirements.

What you bring

• Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geological Engineering or Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering is required.

• Must be currently registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.

* Four (4+) years or more of relevant practical experience would qualify as an Intermediate Engineer (P2)

* Eight (8+) years or more of relevant practical experience would qualify as a Sr Engineer (P3)

* Please note the stated salary range is for a Sr. Engineer (8 years minimum experience).

* Candidates with less years of experience and/or who do not possess the full qualifications will still be considered at the appropriate level with commensurate pay.

• The successful candidate will need a valid Class 5 BC driver's license.

• The successful candidate must be willing to travel across the province and work at various BC Hydro Facilities.

• Effective verbal and written communication including report writing skills are essential.

• Ability to provide work leadership or technical direction to engineers or other technical staff.

• Demonstrated education, training and experience with as many of the following key subject areas as possible is desired:

o Rock mechanics including rock mass quality assessment and characterization.

o Rock tunnel and slope inspection and stabilization design.

o Rockslide characterization, monitoring and analysis.

o Rockfall monitoring, assessment and mitigation.

o Investigation and evaluation of geological and geotechnical hazards.

o Rock quarry development planning and execution.

o Development of 3D geological models for both rock and soil deposits.

o Soil liquefaction and internal erosion susceptibility assessments.

o Performance assessment of embankment dams.

o Geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems for dams and landslides.

o Site investigations and characterization.
