Job Profile

What you will be doing

  • Sets up and clears dining room tables and ensures tables and chairs are cleaned and sanitized and dining room floor swept for dropped food items.
  • Assists cook with, food preparation and program staff with serving food, tea, and coffee to patrons on a daily basis as well as at annual special events.
  • Reheats simple food that are prepared or prepackaged ready to serve items or assists with pick up of outside catered food from local restaurants in the absence of a cook.
  • Delivers food, pots and pans between facilities.
  • Prepares beverages – water, juice, tea/coffee for meal and snack service.
  • Plates food for clients according to dietary instructions. Keeps current with clients’ dietary restrictions.
  • Supervises dining areas as needed.
  • Hand washes dishes and pots and pans and completes the cleaning and disinfecting steps with dishwasher and puts dishes, pots and pans away.
  • Ensures proper labeling and storage of foods, recording of food temperatures and proper disinfecting of dishes, equipment and counter spaces.
  • Clears out old food items and ensures proper disposal / recycling.
  • Cleans the fridge, kitchen equipment, shelves, towels, linens, and keeps kitchen and pantry areas in clean, orderly fashion.
  • Directs, mentors, and coordinates volunteers and students completing placements in the kitchen or dining room areas.
  • Communicates with program staff, cooks, clients, volunteers, and students to ensure effective food and customer service.

Education

  • High School Grade 12 OSSD Diploma or equivalent

Experience and Knowledge

  • Three months’ food service experience in a similar environment.
  • Valid Driver’s License and use of personal vehicle.
  • Valid Safe Food Handling certificate.
  • Current First Aid, CPR & AED certifications.
  • Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check, dated no earlier than six months before start date.

Current and valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.

Standard First Aid, CPR C & AED certification

Valid G driver's license.

Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.

Your compensation

The hourly wage is within our inside workers union Grade 1, $23.03 to $24.48 per hour (2026 Rates).

Hours of work

This new position will works two shifts, eight hours per week and will fill in for other food service staff for scheduled vacation or last minute absences, Monday to Sunday, any time between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM as scheduled or when called in.
