The Program – Passages

The Passages Program is a six-bed Live-In Program for youth ages 12 to 17 years who have status with Children’s Services. Passages offers a recreation, life skills and relationship-based program. The intention of the youth’s stay is to collaborate with the youth and their supports to identify strengths and areas of growth where resourcing and skill development can be done with the aim of supporting the youth’s successful transition back to their family (parental or kinship setting) wherever possible, or into a less intrusive placement were indicated by the case plan.

The programming at Passages focuses on cultivating each youth’s sense of self-worth and helps each youth identify, establish, and maintain healthy relationships with their supports to allow for successful and stable transitions. The Passages Program provides youth with a safe and nurturing environment; individualized care plans; educational and recreational activities; and the development of daily routines. The development of strong positive relationships is a key component of the overall success of the Passages Program.

The Position – Youth and Family Support Practitioner

This is a Permanent Position, 1.0 FTE, Sunday – Thursday; Rotating Schedule of 2 weeks of 7am – 3pm and 2 weeks of 3-11pm.

Youth and Family Support Practitioners will assume responsibility for the management of individual youth cases at the Passages Program. Enviros Programs provide trauma informed, culturally aware and inclusive environments that support youth who are unable to live at home or in family-based care. Practitioners will facilitate day-to-day care of the youth including but not limited to; creating a safe and welcoming environment, building trust and rapport with youth, ensuring the home is well kept, providing meals, etc. Develop and maintaining successful relationships with the you, collaborating with coworkers, external families and other case related professionals is highly important. Documentation is another key component, and detailed, accurate records and reports are maintained.

The Youth and Family Support Practitioner must follow and actively support all Enviros’ policies and procedures, health and safety protocols, legislative protocols and provide support as needed so that accreditation standards are met.

Potential Risks

All programs within Enviros provide services to persons served who may be described as “person at risk” or “a vulnerable person”. As a result of the situations persons served may have experienced, there may be situations within our programs where person served may become aggressive, violent or lose control of their behaviours, demonstrating at risk behaviours. For all programs, Enviros has protocols to mitigate these risks including providing support and training to assist agency personnel in working through at-risk persons served.

Employees must be aware of the potential and inherent risks associated with Enviros programs and this role within the agency including but not limited to physical and/or mental harm.

Qualifications/Experience

Education and Experience

Diploma / Undergraduate Degree in Human Services.

Experience with trauma informed, cultural awareness, and strength-based practice.

Experience working in Group Care programs.

Recreational programming experience is an asset.

Other Qualifications

Current Standard First Aid and CPR C (emergency first aid will not be accepted).

Current Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sectors Designation (must have been completed in the past 6 months)

Current Intervention Record Check (must have been completed in the past 6 months). *Current wait times for new applicants is 30 business days. Applicants are encouraged to apply prior to the interview process.

Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 5 GDL will not be accepted) with a clear driving record.

Intervention Record Check (IRC)

Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

Both checks must be completed prior to the employee’s start date. Please note that this process can take up to six (6) weeks to complete.

Enviros will accept IRCs and Criminal Record Checks with VSC that are no more than six (6) months old at the time of hire.
