The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for a continuing, part-time (25 hrs/wk) Sports Coordinator position commencing September 2, 2026 in the Education Services department. This position will be located at the Education Centre in Airdrie, AB. This is a 10-month position based on the school calendar.

The Sports Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and ensuring the successful execution of the sports seasons and events within Rocky View Schools (RVS). The Sports Coordinator organizes all events related to the full schedule of Rocky View Sports Association (RVSA) sanctioned middle and high school athletics programs, as well as RVS events for the Office of the Superintendent.

Responsibilities Include

  • Creates and maintains an annual calendar of RVSA events that includes high and middle school regular season and divisional play-off games, tournaments, bonspiels, meets, banquets, pre/post-season coaches meetings, middle and high school Sports Parameters meetings, links to the Learning golf tournament, and other events as determined by the Office of the Superintendent
  • Manages Rocky View Sports Association website including scores
  • Attends South Central Zone and Alberta Schools Athletics Association meetings and events
  • Advises RVSA executive on new initiatives and coordinates RVSA Executive Meetings
  • Rents sports equipment and event software, if required
  • Chairs and organizes pre/post-season coaches meetings and event committee meetings including room bookings, refreshments, recording meeting minutes and posting minutes of meetings
  • Chairs and organizes middle school and high school end of year parameters meetings including room bookings, refreshments, recording meeting minutes and posting minutes of meetings
  • Manages RVSSA Sharepoint sites
  • Sends memos and manages communication with RVS administrators, commissioners, athletic directors and coaches
  • Coordinates communication with administrators regarding postponement or cancellation of games/tournaments due to weather, road conditions and/or air quality conditions.
  • Reviews, manages and calculates all Plug-in fees
  • Registers RVS representatives for Zone and Provincial competitions
  • Monitors RVSA emails, sports-specific software, and budget manager
  • Oversees the certification of all RVSA coaches
  • Monitors release time for teacher coaches, bussing to divisional athletic events
  • Manages divisional awards program for the RVS leagues
  • Management of awards and banners including ordering/purchases divisional awards and banners for the RVS leagues and coordinates MVP and All-Star awards program
  • Approves coaching development clinics and online training
  • Reviews and approves host school sites
  • Engages services of sports officials and sports therapists
  • Manages host reimbursement program
  • Ensures Zone and provincial fees are paid for RVS
  • Enforces policies of the Rocky View Sports Association by keeping sports handbooks current Issues warnings and suspensions, resolving issues, and ensuring Codes of Conducts for Players, Coaches, and Parents are relevant
  • Builds and maintains relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders including coaches, administrators, and Zone and provincial sports representatives

Education/Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Education or Kinesiology
  • 1-3 years’ previous experience in the organization and operation of athletics programs and events preferably at the middle and/or high school level
  • Previous supervisory experience is considered an asset
  • Previous experience as a physical education teacher, athletic director and/or school administrator is considered an asset
  • An equivalent combination of Education and Experience would be considered an asset

  • Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients
  • Advanced organizational and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision within defined responsibilities
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction to teachers, community coaches and event staff
  • Proven organizational ability in scheduling leagues and tournaments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
