Part-time Temporary Nutrition Grant Assistant - 0.5 FTE

Position Summary
The Nutrition Grant Assistant supports the successful implementation of the St. Patrick's Community School's nutrition program by establishing, coordinating, purchasing, preparing, organizing, and distributing nutritious breakfasts, snacks, and/or lunches to students. The incumbent ensures food is prepared and delivered in a safe, efficient, and welcoming manner while maintaining compliance with food safety standards, grant requirements, and school procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and coordinate daily nutrition program activities.
Obtain appropriate Food Safety and Handling Courses
Purchase food, supplies, and related materials in accordance with approved budgets and grant requirements.
Monitor inventory levels and maintain accurate records of food and supply usage.
Receive, store, and rotate food products in accordance with food safety standards.
Prepare and package breakfasts, snacks, and/or lunches for student consumption.
Distribute food to students in a respectful, welcoming, and inclusive manner.
Deliver food items to designated classrooms, learning spaces, or service areas as required.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation, serving, and storage areas.
Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, sanitation, and food handling regulations.
Track expenditures and assist with maintaining records required for grant reporting and accountability.
Collaborate with school administration and staff to support the goals of the nutrition program.
Assist in evaluating program effectiveness and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Report food shortages, equipment concerns, safety issues, or other operational challenges to the Principal or designate.
Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the nutrition program.
Qualifications
Experience in food preparation, food service, nutrition programs, or a related field is an asset.
Food Safety Certification is preferred.
Experience working in a school environment is considered an asset.
Basic computer and record-keeping skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong attention to detail and inventory management skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Commitment to creating a positive and supportive environment for students.
Working Conditions
Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and food preparation activities.
Ability to lift and transport food, supplies, and equipment as required.
Work is performed within a school setting and may involve early morning preparation and delivery schedules.
Hours of Work
Hours will be based Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, 7 hours per day, based on the approved nutrition grant proposal and school requirements.
