Job Duties

1. Provide instruction in the Adult 10, Adult 12 or Essential Skills program.

2. Design and Implement a student-centered classroom using an outcome-based approach.

3. Manage the classroom to ensure an optimum learning environment.

4. Plan and deliver content and learning activities that reflect the values, beliefs, needs and contributions of a culturally diverse community with a focus on First Nations and Metis culture and ways of knowing.

5. Provide appropriate evaluation, assessment, and feedback to students.

6. Maintain records of achievement, attendance and other student related information and report such information as required.

7. Identify resources and equipment appropriate to support curriculum/course implementation.

8. Be reflective of and responsive to accommodation of special learning needs including equity groups and diverse learners.

9. Be flexible and responsive to learner needs through the use of appropriate instructional methodologies.

10. Respond to curriculum/course demands and make necessary adjustments according to learner needs such as adult learning principles.

11. Assist students in areas of personal, academic and career development.

12. Engage students in learning activities designed to strengthen ties to work and/or career development.

13. Where required, develop working relationships with appropriate external partners and employers, supporting students in working experience.

14. Practice good interpersonal and communication skills.

15. Pursue professional development opportunities to keep current with employer and educational requirements.

16. Work co-operatively in an interdependent team environment.

17. Follow regulations and policies adopted by Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Specific Accountabilities

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

1. Bachelor of Education or an equivalent.

2. Valid Saskatchewan Professional A Teaching Certificate

3. Combination of training and/or teaching experience of Saskatchewan Curriculum at the 10, 20, or 30 level, and/or Adult 10 Curriculum. Area of demand for casual instructors are Communications/ELA, Math, Science, and Native Studies/Social Studies.

4. Demonstrated competence in teaching Indigenous learners.

5. Demonstrated competence in outcome-based and student-centered instruction.

6. Demonstrated competence in indigenizing curricula and evaluation.

7. Effective communication skills (written and oral).

8. Effective interpersonal skills.

9. Effective instructional ability.

10. Ability to work with individuals with special learning needs.

11. Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and the ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.

12. Ability to work as a team member in an ever-changing environment.

13. Demonstrates valuing diversity.
