About the Client

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an energetic 80-year-old woman living in a senior community in Brampton. She's a vibrant, spunky Jamaican lady who loves to chat, shop, travel, eat, and meet new people. She worked as a government supervisor and takes pride in feeling independent and in control of her home and daily decisions. She enjoys staying active—cleaning, folding, organizing—and loves talking about her childhood and career. She's a Leo who likes to feel she's managing things and making her own choices. She enjoys word games, magazines, books, getting her nails done, and all things related to self-care and grooming.

Responsibilities

The caregiver will focus entirely on the client, as she already has separate help for cleaning, laundry, and cooking. Primary duties include supervision for safety due to cognitive support needs, medication reminders, and companionship. The caregiver should engage her in conversation, accompany her on outings, support her hobbies and interests, and provide occasional transportation for errands or appointments. The approach should be collaborative—asking "What would you like to do today?" and making her feel she's leading the plan. Redirection and memory prompts may be needed, always delivered with patience and respect for her independence.

What We're Looking For

We need someone who is calm, patient, reliable, and brings positive energy. The ideal caregiver is mature (closer to the client's age group), culturally sensitive, and ideally Jamaican or Black to help the client feel comfortable and connected. Strong communication skills, the ability to take initiative, and experience with cognitive support and supervision are essential. The caregiver should respect her independence while ensuring her safety, and be comfortable with her strong personality and desire to feel in charge.

Schedule

This is a weekend-focused role with overnight and daytime coverage. Care is needed Friday evening through Saturday overnight, all day Saturday and Sunday, and Sunday evening. The client attends a day program three days per week, so weekend support is the priority. Two caregivers may be required—one for overnight shifts and one for daytime weekend hours.
