AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting to the Coordinator, Education & Outreach, and working closely with the Cultural Programming team, the Community Programming & Outreach Associate is responsible for liaising with internal and external stakeholders to establish and build relationships to execute events, services and programs. The goal of this work is to improve the effectiveness, consistency and quality of participation in arts and culture programming.

Stakeholders include community organizations, artists, rental clients, Downtown Brampton BIA, committees, businesses, professional associations, social organizations & services, patrons, as well as staff, interns, students, volunteers, and other City departments.

1.Programs and curates Cultural Programming events and activities.

Plans and executes programming under the supervision of the Coordinator, Education & Outreach

Provides community outreach support to the Coordinator, Public Art and Officer, Public Art

Integrates community participation and engagement in arts and culture programming

Responsible for post-event evaluation process, as well as executing post-event/program evaluations in consultation with program areas, to determine how future events can be improved

Collaborate on the development of event operational plans and ensure that required changes are implemented

Project lead for Cultural Programming special events and projects, as needed

Respond to last-minute complex public programming requests from internal and external stakeholders that require immediate action or accommodation

2.Builds relationships and leads community outreach initiatives.

Maintains current and establishes new relationships with multiple stakeholders to seek ways to engage the community, foster talent development, increase facility usage, encourage participation, partner with businesses and organizations, and bring artists to Cultural spaces and venues

Responsible for maintaining Cultural Programming contacts and related information for community partners, outreach activities, and programming

Ensure that community partners' needs are met in order to participate in or collaborate on programming

Address issues with City of Brampton policies, procedures, contractual requirements, and methodology identified by community partners

Ensure that community partners fulfil contractual requirements

3.Promotes Cultural Programming events and activities and develops artists and community opportunities.

Attends meetings, activities, and events to raise awareness of programs and services, promoting the Cultural Services Division, to build its profile

Identifies ways to increase participation, attendance and traffic in Cultural spaces and programs

Supports marketing and promotion initiatives and activities with local businesses and community partners, including providing guided tours of facilities

Researches grants that apply to Cultural Programming activities, and writes grants to support arts and culture programming

Collaborates with Divisional Staff and supports the preparation of programming recommendations for the Director, Cultural Services

4. Leads internal communication to support Cultural Programming community outreach initiatives

Provides two-way information and communication for all Cultural Programming business areas at meetings, activities, and events

Determines how communication is shared, confirms how it will be actioned, and establishes timelines for action and follow-up

Ensures coordination with other community, outreach and event initiatives within the City

Represents the Cultural Services Division in community outreach and event planning groups and committees

5.Supervise support staff (contract, part-time, volunteer)

Daily onsite supervision of work duties, scheduling, adherence to City policies and procedures (i.e. Health and Safety and payroll documentation)

Meets with staff for recruiting, training and coaching; Provides performance evaluation feedback, including discipline, if needed

Evaluates staff training needs and arranges for training initiatives, particularly regarding qualifications and certifications

Provides immediate on-site or remote resolution or decision-making to front-line staff for issues that arise onsite during events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education

Post-secondary education specializing in arts administration, cultural management, event management, community development, or a closely related field; and/ or an equivalent combination of training and professional experience

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated successful experience in a performing arts, visual arts, or cultural attraction environment, or proven experience in community engagement, outreach programs, arts and culture management/programming or cultural space management

Experience developing relationships and partnerships involving multiple stakeholders and organizations

Mandatory Requirements

  • Ontario Class G Drivers’ License and ability to obtain a City of Brampton Fleet Permit
  • Standard First Aid CPR-C/ AED Certification

Other Skills and Assets

  • Passion for arts and culture and a practical knowledge of community programming.
  • Demonstrated history of being a confident, articulate leader who works well collaboratively with fellow staff members as well as outside constituents
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and presentation ability
  • Understanding of business needs, project management, process development
  • Must be forward-thinking and innovative
  • Organizational skills; detail-oriented, well organized and able to coordinate and multi-task to accomplish a variety of tasks and activities with conflicting priorities and timelines
  • Ability to manage confidential information relating to artists, budget, and human resources
