Overview
The False Alarm Administrator supports the Alarm Bylaw by issuing permits, billing for excess false alarms, unregistered properties and other cited Bylaw violations, and increasing awareness of the bylaw through communciation materials to reduce the amount of false alarms within the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO). This position tracks alarms on PRIME (RCMP computer system), maintains ongoing statistics and ensures registered properties are correctly identified for billing and RCMP alarm response purposes.
Responsibilities
1. Process and Maintain Alarm Permits:
- Verify property addresses, data and issuing permits with the appropriate alarm company for each property.
- Prepare billings for false alarms, including alarm details for property owners.
- Send payment notifications (new, renewal and overdue) to alarm sites via mail or email and document correspondence.
- Collect, prepare, submit and account for payments of false alarms and unregistered property billings with uncollected billings charged to property taxes.
2. Support community awareness of the RDCO False Alarm Bylaw:
- Prepare for and participate at promotional public and community events.
- Create and distribute information packages to unregistered alarm sites, both residential and business, to increase Bylaw compliance.
- Work with alarm companies to promote education on bylaw changes as well as elicit their assistance to help address problem sites.
3. Complete all services related to tracking alarms within PRIME (RCMP computer system).
4. Collect and summarize data and statistics for reporting purposes to the RDCO and RCMP.
5. Respond to public enquiries regarding billing and complaints.
6. Communicate with RCMP regarding RCMP Alarm Program, Policy and Procedures and day to day files.
7. Assist with supporting Community Safety programs as needed.
8. Assist other positions in the Department as needed.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Training and Experience Required
- Diploma in office administration or equivalent education, training and experience,
- Two years related experience.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain RCMP enhanced security clearance.
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize a varying workload, including work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to effectively handle confrontational situations and resolve conflicts.
- Strong computer literacy including skills in MS Office and ability to quickly learn and use database management and computerized accounting systems such as PRIME, CRYWOLF, GIS and Vadim.
- Basic statistical record keeping and database administration.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with tact and diplomacy.
- Knowledge of RCMP policy and procedures with respect to alarm response and security alarm systems an asset.

Work Conditions
Physical Effort: Intermittent keyboarding and data entry. Occasional lifting and carrying of office supplies.
Physical Environment: Office environment. Occasional participation at community events.
Mental Stress: Meeting deadlines, dealing with the public and multitasking, occasional exposure to complaints from the public.
Sensory Attention: Short periods of concentration for detailed clerical duties.
Additional Information
This is a full time, permanent CUPE 338 that works a schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch. This job opening closes on the evening of Sunday, July 19th, 2026.
