Position Purpose summary
The intake worker provides critical support to the Kingston Harbour Light live in treatment program, by ensuring that all treatment beds are fully occupied with appropriately screened clients . Kingston Harbour Light provides treatment for men/those who self-identify as men, with concurrent disorders.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
To conduct all pre-admission interviews
To respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner
Review potential admissions weekly with Operations Manager
To supervise clients’ admission to program and placement of clients in rooms
To provide urine testing when necessary
To maintain files of all admissions, inquiries and refusals
To facilitate groups in the program schedule
To ensure that clients are adequately oriented to Kingston Harbour Light and its program
Provide case management services to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) offenders in alignment with CSC funding contract requirements, including individual counselling, intake and assessment, stabilization, progress monitoring, and support planning
To ensure that the room roster is maintained and updated regularly as required
To establish and maintain a computerized client information data base
To communicate and build relationships with outside agencies
To serve on committees as appointed
To keep Connex informed weekly regarding availability of beds
To participate in all staff meetings
To participate in regular direct supervision with immediate supervisor
To participate in staff development as required
To complete daily reporting in EMHWare
To undertake other duties as assigned
education and experience Qualifications:
Minimum undergraduate degree from a recognized institution (in one of the human services professions)
Registration in a professional college an asset
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING IN:
Relapse prevention, Crisis intervention, Harm Reduction Strategies, Resources and Risk Management
CBT, MI and Strength based Approaches
Pharmacology
Client Assessment and Discharge Planning
Networking, Referrals and strong knowledge of resources
Understanding and appreciation of Diverse populations
Knowledge and experience in substance abuse counselling, group counselling and case management
Knowledge and experience with assessment tools
Knowledge and experience with concurrent disorders
Knowledge of culturally competent practices
Knowledge and experience with data management systems and outcome measurements
Knowledge and experience with CSC and working with offenders
Awareness and experience with marginalized and vulnerable populations
Basic First Aid/CPR Certification an asset
Proficient in English language, second language an asset
Upon hiring, successful candidate must provide

Senior Management, Operations Manager, counsellors & staff within agency, clients, outside agencies
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY
Reports directly to: Operations Manager
WORKING CONDITIONS
Office setting, long periods of being seated, using computer, phone systems
Little to no travel
Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $28.43 to $28.43 with a maximum of $28.43.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
