Position Overview and Responsibilities

The lead person assists production supervisors with the day-to-day workflow on the shop floor as it relates to parts and manpower assignments.

  • Participates in production scheduling and assignments as given by the supervisor and Plant Manager.
  • Notifies the supervisor or Plant Manager of material flow or quality problems.
  • Trains shop floor personnel as needed, including when quality issues arise. Along with the supervisor, the lead person is responsible for the correctness of the product made.
  • Forwards vacation or time-off requests to the supervisor for approval.
  • May work or assist in all areas of production, including quality, assembly, and test.
  • Has complete knowledge of the business unit product line.
  • As requested, oversees the quality and workmanship of fellow team members.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates workflow in production under the direction of the supervisor or Plant Manager.
  • Checks the correctness of the product made throughout the process.
  • Notify the Quality Department, supervisor, or Plant Manager of any parts or production problems.
  • Effectively communicates with the team and supervisor to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Trains employees as needed.
  • Initiates steps for maintenance of machines or equipment and follows through until resolution.
  • Addresses (or escalates) performance issues with team members as needed.
  • Works in partnership with the Plant Manager to align resources to meet production needs.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Education/Experience

  • Typically, 5 years’ experience in wind, power transmission, or heavy equipment assembly, test, and paint.
  • 5 years of lead knowledge and experience.
  • Leadership abilities and self-motivation with a results-driven approach.
  • Coaching and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of management techniques to direct and lead a team.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the metric system.
  • 5 years of blueprint reading experience or a GD&T certificate.
  • Good level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic technology in the area where assigned.
  • Basic skills in Word and Excel.
  • Good level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization, motivate employees, and elicit work output.
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and other management systems.
  • MS Office knowledge is a must; SAP knowledge is an advantage.
  • Must be able to stand and walk (90% of the day) and occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

Education and Training

A combination of formal education, training, and experience to acquire knowledge and skills generally equivalent to those possessed by an experienced high school graduate. Requires 5 years of demonstrated experience leading employees in a manufacturing environment.
