TL;DR: looking for mission-aligned people to join my research lab.

I am starting a research group in Toronto, focused on applications of machine learning to longevity research. The main goal of the group is development of ML-based pipelines utilizing generative models and active learning for efficient exploration of chemical space, and applications to the discovery of anti-aging interventions. To begin with, we will be focusing on cellular senescence and discovery of novel cryoprotectants.

I have a machine learning background myself, but the lab will have strong interdisciplinary focus, and will be a joint appointment between The Hospital for Sick Children (biggest research hospital in Canada), CS Department of University of Toronto, and Vector Institute (leading AI institute). We have very strong collaborators with expertise in cellular senescence and chemistry at SickKids and UofT, as well as ML, in particular at Mila (where I just finished my postdoc supervised by Yoshua Bengio). We also have strong industrial ties (ongoing collaboration with Genentech, exploring the possibility of spinning off one of our current projects).

I am currently looking for 1-2 ML postdocs and molecular biology lab technician (links below). In addition, we are looking for a chemistry postdoc (mostly focused on synthesis of our molecule candidates, and work on parallel synthesis and self-driving labs; will be set up in my collaborator’s lab - reach out for details if interested). Finally, I will be looking for students at UofT with enrolment in January.

Please forward to anyone that might be interested, and in case of any questions either reach out here or email me (details).
