IT Server Analyst at City of Grande Prairie

Our Geographical & Information Technology Services Department is looking for a dedicated IT Server Analyst to join the team.
Position Responsibilities
The City of Grande Prairie is seeking a Server Analyst to join our GITS team. In this role, you will help maintain and improve the reliability, security, and performance of the City’s server and cloud infrastructure. As one of the core specialists responsible for enterprise servers, you will support mission ‑critical systems that enable emergency services, public operations, and essential municipal functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Server Management — Maintain and upgrade physical, virtual, and hyper‑converged server infrastructure. Monitor performance, manage patches, support storage systems, and perform backup/restore operations.
- Security Administration — Manage user accounts, certificates, EDR, firewall rules, and system‑hardening configurations. Review security logs, investigate incidents, and support enterprise security controls..
- Database & Web Services — Administer SQL databases, IIS web services, file structures, and application servers. Install updates, maintain security configurations, and support technology staff.
- Cloud & Microsoft 365 Support — Support Azure and hybrid cloud workloads, including Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online administration, troubleshooting, and routine operational tasks.
- Research & Improvement — Evaluate new technologies, participate in pilot projects, and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, security, and efficiency of City IT services.
- Critical Incident Response — Respond to after‑hours issues when required to maintain continuity of critical municipal systems.
- May be required to respond to after hours situations in the event of a critical infrastructure interruption.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field(two‑year IT diploma + 5 years’ experience also considered)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in server systems administration
- Experience with Microsoft Server, O365, Azure, SQL, Active Directory, IIS
- Knowledge of HCI, visualization (VMware/Hyper‑V), cloud platforms, and enterprise security
- Experience with major brand firewalls and networking devices
- Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM processes and IT ticketing systems

Preferred Certifications
- Azure Administrator Associate (AZ‑104)
- Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (AZ‑800/801)
- Microsoft 365 Administrator Associate (MS‑102)
Hours
The standard workweek consists of an average of 35 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.
Compensation
Salary range of $45.21 to $58.43 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
