Your Opportunity at SECURE
The Class 1 Self-Loader Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation, loading, and unloading of scrap metal and recyclable materials using a self-loader truck. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent equipment operating skills, and the ability to work independently while delivering exceptional customer service.
This position is ideal for an experienced Class 1 driver who is equally comfortable behind the wheel and operating the self-loader, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and exceptional service.
This position is located in Kimberley, British Columbia.
The Team
The SECURE Metals & Mining team is a group of experienced professionals dedicated to providing innovative and reliable scrap metal recycling services.
Work Environment
This is a Monday to Friday full time position working 7:30am to 4:30pm with overtime as required.
A Day in The Life
- Safely operate a Class 1 commercial vehicle to transport scrap metal and recyclable materials to and from customer locations and company facilities.
- Operate the mounted self-loader to self-load and unload materials efficiently and safely.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the truck, trailer, and self-loader, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Secure loads in accordance with company procedures and applicable transportation regulations.
- Follow all federal, provincial, and municipal transportation laws, including hours of service and cargo securement requirements.
- Complete daily electronic logs, inspection reports, scale tickets, and shipping documentation accurately.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and site personnel regarding schedules, delays, and operational issues.
- Perform routine equipment cleaning and basic preventative maintenance.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure equipment is operated responsibly.
- Assist with yard operations and other duties as required.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Class 1 Driver's License with a clean commercial driver's abstract.
- Previous experience operating a self-loader truck.
- Experience handling scrap metal, construction materials, or other bulk materials is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of transportation regulations, cargo securement, and safe driving practices.
- Ability to operate the equipment safely in various weather and site conditions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to identify equipment issues.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent customer service and professionalism.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
