Provides direction and guidance to Analysts / Developers on the Application Solutions team. Assigns work to team and schedules their activities. Manages the development and maintenance of technical documents, and in some cases, works with many diverse, IT and Business leads to create, review, and update the documents. Provides guidance to the analyst/developers to assist senior level business stakeholders in planning and delivering solutions for multiple inter-related initiatives and assist them in making informed and prudent decisions as they relate to project and system enhancement work. Accountable for the management and execution of development, integration, technical configuration, and unit testing for projects and system enhancements. Participates in projects and system enhancement and assigns direct reports and external contractors to this work.
This role works with the Director to create, implement, and champion the ESA application development and integration practices, and is accountable for the advancement of such practices. Serves as the strategic product leader for all SAP, Net & Dynamics 365 environments, ensuring the platform roadmap aligns with organizational objectives and that Analysts / Developers are appropriately directed and supported. In addition to analysis and development, actively participate in the budget creation and management for the application solutions team including selection of new applications, application upgrades (built and purchased), effort estimation, RFP, vendor contracts, and invoicing reviews.
1. People Management
Provides people management to the analysts/developers on the Application Solutions team.
- Accountable for supervision and performance management of the analysts/developers
- Conducts performance appraisals.
- Provides coaching and mentoring to team members to achieve business, functional and individual goals.
- Conducts disciplinary discussions in consultation with People & Culture, and escalates issues to Director as necessary
- Leads the recruiting efforts for new team members, both internal employees and external contractors
- Hires and on-boards new team members
- Proactively applies change management techniques to manage team through change
- Manage conflict resolution within team, encouraging and mentoring team on conflict resolution without escalation
- Accountable for resource management of these resources, including:
- Assigning work and scheduling their activities.
- Monitoring the quality of work performed.
- Identifying training needs
- Maintaining an ongoing view of supply and demand
- Ensure technical documentation is complete and maintained
- Lead or participate in technical design reviews and code reviews following ESA standards

Works collaboratively with IT Management to champion and foster a ‘one team’ environment within IT to ensure alignment of priorities, approach and activities across teams to deliver effectively on overall team objectives.

3. Application Delivery & Technical Leadership
Leads, coordinates and manages development and analysis activities to create and support business and IT projects, enhancements, and tickets. Oversees preparation of reports/documents by direct reports for internal stakeholders, approves team’s project estimates and ensures the team creates and maintains appropriate documents using established templates, version control and procedures as defined for the application solutions team.
Works with the team to advance the development and analysis practice, creating a roadmap to evolve these ESA practices. Ensures the team leverages standard tools and templates (ex. coding standards, design documents, application support and ownership data) to create appropriate development, unit testing, technical configuration, integration, and deployment processes and technical documents.
Acts as the technical lead on more complex projects, delegating the accountability for various tasks to appropriate subject matter experts on his/her team, or to external contractors. Coordinates assigned project, system enhancement, and ticket activities including coordination with other departments. Monitors the progress and costs of assigned work. Recommends changes in resourcing. Prepares progress reports and conducts review meetings with appropriate audiences. Assists the Director with Application Ownership. Assists in preparing project effort estimates
4. Application Product Leadership
Serves as the strategic product leader for all SAP & Dynamics 365 environments, providing oversight of the platform roadmap and ensuring product capabilities are aligned with business objectives and user expectations. Directs and supports the Analyst / Developers in the delivery of SAP & Dynamics 365 enhancements, configurations, and integrations.
- Maintains and prioritizes the SAP & Dynamics 365 product backlog across all environments, collaborating with business stakeholders and the Dynamics Developer team to ensure delivery alignment
- Provides product leadership throughout Agile delivery cycles, including sprint planning, product reviews, and retrospectives
- Oversees intake, prioritization, and assessment of SAP & Dynamics 365 enhancements and support requests; evaluates business and technical impacts in collaboration with Dynamics Developers and business leads
- Partners with external vendors, partners, and internal subject matter experts to resolve issues and evaluate enhancement opportunities
- Ensures SAP & Dynamics 365 platform stability and quality through oversight of change, incident, and problem management processes
- Communicates product decisions, development priorities, and release information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ensures alignment of SAP & Dynamics 365 capabilities with organizational strategy and the broader application portfolio roadmap
5. Budget & Vendor Management
Actively participates in the annual IT budgeting process, including creation and tracking for the application solutions team.
Working with the Director, actively participate in recommendations for the application portfolio including selection of new applications, application upgrades (built and purchased), RFP, vendor contracts, and invoicing reviews.
Within the general context of the job responsibilities, makes strategic and tactical suggestions to Director of Application Solutions on how to improve the team’s effectiveness and efficiency as it relates to development and analysis, management of the application portfolio, and budget management.
Ensures adherence, personally and with the team, to company financial policies and standards.
6. Strategic Advisory
Participates actively in all IT management activities as part of the IT Management Team.
Provides services in the most effective and efficient manner to meet corporate and customer needs.
Keeps current with latest trends in development, analysis, technical configuration, and system integration and maintains knowledge of current best practices in application delivery.
Performs other duties as required.
Education: Requires strong knowledge of information technology, including software applications, technical configuration, and systems integration to implement new solutions and maintain and support existing solutions that meet business objectives.
Requires knowledge of Business and IT business methods, procedures and organization structures to be aware of limitations that can be imposed and to recognize factors influencing the effective implementation of methodologies, risk and application development related activities.
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of 4 years of university education in an appropriate discipline or by having the equivalent education.
SAP & Dynamics 365 application and configuration experience and/or certification is preferred.
Experience: Solid knowledge and thorough understanding for implementing and modifying a portfolio of business applications including built and purchased for an integrated service offering. Excellent business communication to understand, analyse, and recommend solutions to senior management. Previous experience managing a technology team is required. SAP, Dynamics 365, Power Platform and .Net experience is an asset.
Proven ability to work in an ambiguous environment and collaborate across multiple areas to identify and achieve common business objectives. Strong and tested development and analysis skills stemming from both failed and successful project experience and lessons learned. Demonstrated hands on experience to achieve business objectives on large enterprise-wide projects in a complex technology environment. Solid understanding of software development lifecycle including experience in a customer-based environment that requires effective communication, technical presentations, and training for new solutions.
Requires demonstrated experience leading and motivating professional staff. Requires experience in supervisory duties.
Develop, present, justify and gain approval for technical documentation from business and IT stakeholders including senior executives, as required.
A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
