Job Summary
This position provides highly specialized technical services and support to ensure the efficient operation of the College teaching, meeting, and gathering facilities through the design, implementation, customization, maintenance, and control of complex audio visual, electronic, computer, and multimedia presentation facilities. This position coordinates Audio Visual support to the College by providing guidance, implementation, design and support to programs, faculty, and students.
In conjunction with the Manager of IT Operations, this position is responsible for requisitioning and maintaining an adequate inventory of audio-visual components and peripherals required for classroom and event operation and maintenance. The position is responsible for maintaining and compiling classroom equipment information for the budget submission process.
The position will suggest and recommend classroom technology solutions and provide the appropriate audio-visual equipment to students, faculty, and staff for use in classrooms, events, and special projects. The position provides guidance, training and specialized technical and audio-visual support to College academic and administrative staff. The position coordinates and manages related projects (as appropriate) that are initiated by ITS, faculty, or self.
The position works independently or as part of the ITS/college team and must exercise strong initiative, good judgment and be proactive in providing, developing, and recommending a productive and safe work environment.
What you’ll be doing
Audio Visual/ Teaching, Learning Technologies Classroom Support
- Troubleshoots classroom audio visual issues across college classrooms, labs and common areas, many locations have unique configurations and equipment requiring a combination of knowledge related to audio visual, computer, and network technologies.
- Coordinates/supports tri-campus A/V technologies with IT Service Desk and AV Technologists located across the college locations.
- Assists faculty with using and connecting college audio visual, computer, and related equipment, often while class is being conducted on a call out basis.
- Uses complex Audio-Visual enterprise tools to remotely administer and monitor equipment, makes adjustments and provides remote support to users teaching classes.
Audio Visual New and Upgrade, Design, and Implementation
- Designs and layout of new/upgraded classroom, meeting and common space teaching, learning and collaboration technologies ensuring adherence to established standards while meeting identified project objectives.
- Coordinates with faculty for specific requirements related to academic needs which may include addition of standardized or completely new equipment that needs to be integrated.
- Develops and maintains technical standards for installations and best practices based on current and future industry and vendor trends, while ensuring fit with existing college environment, goals, and objectives.
- Coordinates with CTLI, external contractors, scheduling, and other areas of ITS to arrange or perform the installation of new and upgraded teaching, learning and collaboration equipment in classrooms and common areas of the college.
- Maintains asset inventory including multi-year equipment forecast based on renewal planning.
- Contributes to annual budget and renewal planning.
- Responsible for the fulfillment of all departmental Purchasing Orders (E.g. Obtaining quotes, initiate RFPs with Purchasing, initiating and investigating and purchasing requisitions on behalf of college departments)
- Contributes to Capital Vision and Master Plan expansion projects with designs in areas that are not always associated with AV and teaching and learning – such as athletics workout spaces as an example.
Live Events
Provide occasional live event support to the Event Team as needed for vacation scheduling to assist with:
- Coordinates with staff and faculty to host live events at the College.
- Pre plans and recommends specific equipment requirements for the event.
- Coordinates the installation and setup of all related equipment including full testing and rehearsal for staff.
- Provides a consultation service to the Events group on non- college booked events.
Guidance
- Provides guidance to faculty and administration regarding college audio visual equipment.
Hardware
- Assists faculty and staff with computer support issues in classrooms, labs and common areas connected to AV systems.
- Sets up, deploys, and supports podium and other AV connected computer systems.
- Works with ITS teams on larger hardware related initiatives and rollouts.
Digital Signage
- Procures and installs new Digital Signage.
- Works with Enterprise services staff on software configuration, enrollment of new displays and when creating or updating standards.
- Troubleshoots day to day signage issues related to display, computer cabling, or network issues, works with other ITS sections when required to resolve issues.
- Maintains asset inventory including multi-year equipment forecast.
- Contributes to annual budget and renewal planning.
Other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to the role
- Graduate from a Community College in Electronics, Computer Engineering Technology, or equivalent education.
- ITIL v3 or v4 Foundations certification.
- CTS-I or CTS-D certification.
- ANP certification (Audio Visual Network Professional).
- Certifications in areas of Crestron, Extron, QSC, Dante or other related A/V certificates is considered an asset.
- Incumbent will have a minimum of 8 recent cumulative years of AV support experience in a large enterprise environment. Including the design, programming, maintenance, support, modification, integration, and repair of varied types of electronic, audio visual and computer equipment.
- Coordination of special projects; and administration of enterprise management systems related to audio visual. Advanced computer skills are expected.
