Scope

The City of Surrey is seeking caring and enthusiastic individuals to support our adapted swim lesson program for children and youth with disabilities, ages 4-18.

In this role, you will provide one-to-one support to participants who require additional assistance to safely and successfully participate in swimming lessons. Working alongside aquatic staff, you will help create a safe, positive and inclusive environment that encourages swimmers to build confidence and develop their skills.

This auxiliary position offers weekly shifts on Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Provides one-to-one support to participants using communication and physical support tools as required.
• Assist swimming instructors with the planning, implementation, delivery, and promotion of adapted swimming programs and activities and to create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, participants, and caregivers. Respond appropriately to situations as they arise, following established policies and procedures.
• Encourages participation and engagement in program activities.
• Provides program and facility information to participants and the public.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have:

• Completion of Grade 10, supplemented by six months of experience in community service work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Current Emergency First Aid and CPR certification.
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team and provide excellent customer service.

The following are considered as assets:

• Experience working with children with disabilities in a recreational, childcare, or educational setting.
• Strong comfort and confidence in the water.
• Aquatics experience.

Other Information

Pay Grade: Schedule D

Hourly Rate: $25.54

Conditions of Employment

This position requires completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
