Estimator at REDPATH MINING
The primary role of the Estimator is to work in conjunction with the other members of the Estimating Department, and other departments as required, to develop project estimates, budgets, schedules and proposal documents based on the latest available costing methodology and data. This will be done under the supervision of other members of the department with the degree of supervision varying dependent on experience. These estimates, budgets, schedules and proposal documents are used for winning new work as well as support to the execution of work.
Responsibilities
- Analyze drawings, designs, specifications, and tender documentation to prepare schedules, cost estimates and proposal documents.
- Schedule project activities and modify to suit following reviews.
- Apply labour, equipment and material requirements to each estimate.
- Solicit quotations from vendors and subcontractors. Consult with vendors and specialists to discuss and receive input that is relevant to the conditions of the project being bid.
- Determine performance capabilities with detailed cycle time calculations. Adjust theoretical calculations to reflect historical performance.
- Interface with other individuals in the organization to obtain their contributions to the methodology used, cost estimates and proposal documentation.
- Utilize the company’s estimating software to compile estimates and resource allocation.
- Utilize spreadsheet, word processing, scheduling and presentation software.
- Prepare all tenders in accordance with the “Redpath Bidding Process”.
- Work together with the Proposal Coordinator in meeting the deliverable requirements of all tender submissions to which he/she is assigned.
- Prepare backup estimates and store originals & copies as per procedure.
- Assist and support project management to ensure continuity between tender, construction and project completion.
Qualifications
Education
Required: Post-Secondary Education (mathematical and/or scientific)
Preferred: Mining Engineering Degree, Mining Technician or Technologist Diploma or relevant equivalent
Work Experience
Required: 1-2 years’ related experience &/or knowledge of Underground mining operations
Preferred: 2-4 years’ Underground work experience, practical and engineering
