Purpose of your Position - Non Union
Classification Summary - Union
A Policy Analyst drafts, reviews, and analyses Council and corporate policies and complex bylaws. They administer the Council and corporate policy libraries, ensuring policies are written clearly, meet legislative requirements, advance priorities, and are up to date. They provide guidance to subject matter experts on the appropriate legislative or policy tool to use to meet objectives.
Duties - Union
- Develop, review, and evaluate existing and proposed policies and complex bylaws.
- Advise other departments on policy drafting and appropriate policy tools.
- Administer governance and maintenance of Council and corporate policy libraries.
- Identify and resolve gaps and inconsistencies in bylaw and policy language, interpretation, and application.
- Prepare policies and bylaws that are clear and consistent, meet legislative requirements, and align with Council and corporate priorities.
- Conduct research and analysis of legislation and public policy.
- Create and maintain policy frameworks, guidelines, and procedures.
- Prepare reports and deliver presentations to senior leadership, Council, committees, and other organizations as required.
- Research best practices and provide policy training and support to other staff.
