Interior Design Support at Mount Royal University
About the Role
The Department of Facilities Management is seeking an Interior Design Support role to assist in the technical documentation and management of campus environments. This role focuses on the synchronization of physical interior assets with our digital architectural records.
The successful candidate will perform high-level field surveys to identify architectural finishes, verify furniture specifications, and ensure that our facility databases accurately reflect the design and layout of over 10,000 campus spaces.
These are flexible positions whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. These positions will end September 22, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Technical Field Surveys: Conduct comprehensive on-site inspections to verify that physical layouts match existing architectural drawings and design intent.
- Finish & Material Documentation: Identify and catalog architectural finishes, including flooring materials, paint codes, lighting specifications, and furniture systems.
- Database Management: Update the Archibus Space Module and contribute to the room finishes database using professional finish schedules and plans.
- Design Accuracy & Maintenance: Perform condition assessments of interior furnishings and finishes; initiate maintenance work requests within the Archibus Building Operations Module to ensure design standards are upheld.
- Drawing Support: Collaborate with the drawings specialist to update architectural floor plans and drawings based on field findings.
- Environmental Graphics: Review and verify the installation and accuracy of campus signage and wayfinding elements.
- Project Assistance: Assist in the administration of space data and documentation to support future interior renovation and planning projects.
Qualifications
- Design Literacy: Strong ability to read and interpret construction documentation, floor plans, and interior finish schedules.
- Technical Skills: Competency in MS Office and Google Sheets. AutoCAD skills are highly preferred.
- Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of interior materials, finishes, and furniture systems is beneficial.
- Operational Accuracy: Exceptional attention to detail with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet strict project timelines.
- Physical Requirements: Must be capable of walking and standing for extended periods while conducting field surveys across campus.
- Professionalism: Ability to work independently and exercise high levels of discretion when accessing sensitive or confidential campus areas.
Salary: $21.87 - $27.61 per hour
