Position Objectives
The Town of Grimshaw is accepting applications for (1) permanent, part-time position for Bylaw Enforcement Officer and Animal Control within the Town of Grimshaw.
The Bylaw Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing municipal bylaws and educating the public to promote compliance and safety within the Town. Responsibilities include investigating complaints, issuing citations, preparing for and attending court proceedings, and maintaining enforcement records. The role also involves community outreach, report writing, budget management, and adherence to enforcement policies and procedures. The Bylaw Enforcement Officer must ensure that all applicable municipal policies and bylaws, provincial legislation and federal legislation are adhered to.
The Bylaw Enforcement Officer Must Possess The Following
- High school diploma or GED required
- Post-secondary education in law enforcement or a related field (certificate, diploma, or degree)
- Experience in bylaw or law enforcement
- Knowledge of municipal legislation, investigation techniques, and court procedures
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Public speaking and report writing abilities
- Cultural sensitivity and public relations skills
Duties Include
- Respond to and investigate complaints related to municipal bylaws
- Educate involved parties on bylaw requirements and seek voluntary compliance
- Issue warnings, municipal tags, or provincial violation tickets
- Enforce orders by coordinating corrective action when compliance is not achieved
- Conduct regular patrols and investigations; gather evidence legally and thoroughly
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of enforcement activities and incidents
- Appear in court and provide testimony as needed
- Promote public safety through education on fire prevention, traffic safety, and responsible vehicle use (e.g., ATVs, snowmobiles, bicycles)
- Develop and deliver safety and awareness programs for schools and community organizations
- Liaise with community groups to address concerns and foster bylaw compliance
- Complete administrative tasks, including report writing and data entry
- Monitor and manage the bylaw enforcement budget
A current driver’s license, and criminal record check will be required.
