Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Class G driver’s licence is required.
  • A Class DZ licence is considered an asset. (Note: Applicants who do not currently hold a Class DZ licence must be willing and able to obtain it within the six-month probationary period)
  • Book 7 training is considered an asset

- Physical demands - Ability to lift over 10kg, extended periods of driving (sitting), standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, etc. on a regular basis

The Candidate

The successful candidate should possess the following experience, knowledge and competencies:

  • Trades or construction experience
  • Experience in plowing and salting in a municipal setting (roads, sidewalks, etc.) considered an asset
  • Knowledge and competency of the Highway Traffic Act, Employment Standards Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act (Green Book)
  • Experience with operating a variety of maintenance equipment and tools safely and efficiently
  • Reliable and cooperative, with the ability to work scheduled shiftwork and after-hours emergency and weather-related call-ins
  • Ability to work alone or with minimum supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team environment and interact tactfully with the citizens of Sarnia
