Licensed Practical Nurse at Alberta Health Services
High River General Hospital supports a busy rural community located just south of Calgary with a 24-hour Emergency Department, Surgical Services, Obstetrical Department, Cancer Care, and Medical Inpatients Unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Acute Medical Inpatient Unit works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of the patients, families, & community. The LPN is responsible for assessment planning, implementation, and delivery of patient care that ensures the safety and wellbeing of patients. The LPN will work to full scope, provide a leadership role in supporting an integrated approach to patient care, families & health care team. The LPN must be able to adapt quickly to changing & fluctuating workloads and demonstrate initiative, accountability, critical thinking and strong clinical skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills are required as is a commitment to integrating Patient and Family Centered Care principles, professional development/growth &promoting a positive work culture aligning with AHS values. Being a preceptor and/or mentor for students and staff is an expectation. Staff at HRGH receive training to support patients in other departments and may be assigned to other departments when required. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications
Previous Acute Care experience. Rural Acute Care and/or Rural ER experience within the last six months with a preference for LPNS with experience at HRGH. The LPN will support a diverse patient population and will need to maintain full PPE when required. The LPN position has physical requirements such as the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and sustaining posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling of objects greater than 50 lbs.

Wound care education/certification. Palliative care education/certification. Supportive Pathways certification. Dementia care education. ACLS certification. NVCI certification. Skilled in Cardiac Monitor Interpretation. Preceptor experience. Able to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated strength in working collaboratively with diverse cultural populations and marginalized populations with socio-economic diversities.
