Position Overview
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing on-site project execution, ensuring all work is completed in accordance with project specifications, timelines, budgets, and company standards for safety and quality. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in heavy civil construction, including asphalt paving, road construction, and drainage/service installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise all on-site activities for heavy civil construction projects with varying scopes.
- Track project progress, maintain accurate documentation, and communicate updates or issues with the Project Manager.
- Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents to ensure project requirements are met and conflicts are resolved proactively.
- Work closely with Project Managers to achieve project goals and timelines.
- Oversee and coordinate subcontractors, trades, and suppliers.
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Prepare daily production, quantity, and cost reports for management.
- Support hiring, training, and supervision of site personnel.
- Perform additional coordination and management duties as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing heavy civil construction projects of varying sizes.
- Proven experience in asphalt paving, grading, traffic control, and pipe installation.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, including OPSS specifications, OTM Book 7, and other relevant standards.
- Experience using GPS and elevation/layout equipment is considered an asset.
- Equipment operation experience is an added advantage.
