Cook at Larga Kitikmeot

Larga is a residence for guests travelling from Nunavut while tending to their medical needs. Our mission is to provide a home-away-from-home managed by staff who are welcoming, friendly, approachable, trustworthy, caring, and have a strong desire and willingness to assist guests with their needs throughout the duration of their stay with us.

We are looking for a creative, experienced Cook to join our team on a casual, as-needed basis . If you're passionate about scratch cooking, and food quality, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities

• Prepare three daily meals following the Canadian Food Guide, with attention to dietary needs (e.g., allergies, soft/salt-free/clear fluid diets)

• Cook from scratch and develop menus that are nourishing and appealing

• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of kitchen, equipment, and prep areas

• Monitor food storage temperatures and stock levels; track expiry dates and replenish supplies

• Ensure food safety and sanitation regulations are followed at all times

• Support and mentor junior kitchen staff, and collaborate with the kitchen team for smooth service

• Assist with inventory control, ordering, and receiving kitchen deliveries

• Wash dishes, remove garbage, and perform scheduled deep cleaning tasks

• Log communication notes, submit accurate time sheets, and participate in staff meetings

• Step in for Kitchen Helper or Dining Attendant tasks when needed

• Respond to guest inquiries with respect and refer them to appropriate staff if needed

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of previous cooking experience in a professional kitchen

• Able to plan and prepare meals from scratch, including for guests with dietary restrictions

• Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and inventory management

• Self-motivated and organized with excellent time management skills

• Team player with strong communication skills

• Fluent in English (written and spoken)

• Able to pass a Criminal Record Check and annual medical exam

• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment

Preferred (but not required)

• Food Safe, WHMIS, CPR/First Aid
