At STRIVE, we’re passionate about placing top talent in great organizations where they can make an impact.
THE ROLE
Our client, a well-established and rapidly growing manufacturer in the outdoor products industry, is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their finance team in Penticton, BC.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious accounting professional who is actively pursuing their CPA and is looking to develop into a future finance leader.
Reporting directly to senior leadership, you'll gain exposure to all facets of the accounting function while supporting a thriving manufacturing business experiencing significant year-over-year growth.
The organization is in an exciting phase of expansion, continuing to exceed previous sales targets while growing its dealer network across North America. With new partnerships underway with major national retailers and a strong presence in the U.S. market, this is an opportunity to join a business with impressive momentum and long-term stability.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing hands-on accounting responsibilities with analytical work. While you'll own many of the day-to-day accounting functions, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to process improvements, financial analysis, and operational decision-making as you continue developing your technical expertise.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining accurate general ledger accounts.
- Complete monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Manage day-to-day accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor payments, invoicing, and expense reporting.
- Prepare and file GST/PST returns, payroll remittances, and assist with year-end tax preparation.
- Perform financial analysis and reporting to support operational and business decisions.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and increase efficiencies.
- Maintain accounting records within the ERP system while supporting ongoing system and process improvements.
- Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to support the organization's continued growth.
- Assist with additional accounting and finance projects as required.
Skills & Experience
We're seeking someone who is looking to build their career—not simply perform bookkeeping functions. This position is well suited to an accounting professional who enjoys understanding the "why" behind the numbers and wants to expand their analytical and financial reporting capabilities.
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Active enrollment in the CPA program (designation not yet required).
- Experience in accounting, public practice, or a progressive accounting role with exposure to full-cycle accounting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP or accounting systems.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and desire to grow into increasing levels of responsibility.
- Manufacturing experience is considered an asset but is not required.
WHY JOIN?
- Join a financially strong manufacturer experiencing exceptional growth across North America.
- Be part of a business that continues to expand its customer base through new dealer partnerships and major retail opportunities.
- Work alongside an experienced finance leader who is invested in mentoring and developing the right individual.
- Gain meaningful exposure to financial reporting, analysis, process improvement, and operational accounting.
- Develop your skills beyond transactional accounting while continuing your CPA journey.
- Enjoy a collaborative, flexible, and supportive work environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on the business.
