Position Summary

The Sheet Metal Machine Operator is responsible for safely setting up, programming (where applicable), operating, and maintaining CNC and conventional sheet metal fabrication equipment used in the production of precision components.

This position may operate one or more of the following equipment:

  • CNC Brake Presses
  • Fiber Laser Cutting Systems
  • CNC Turret Presses
  • General Sheet Metal Fabrication Equipment

The primary objective of this role is to produce high-quality components that meet engineering specifications while supporting production flow, protecting operational constraints, and contributing to continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing process.

Operators are expected to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while utilizing MSCP's digital manufacturing systems to accurately record production activities, inspections, and material consumption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate assigned sheet metal fabrication equipment in accordance with production requirements and engineering drawings.
  • Read and interpret drawings, work instructions, digital work packages, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Verify dimensions and product quality using measuring instruments and established quality control procedures.
  • Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and production flow.
  • Perform machine adjustments and routine maintenance within the scope of operator responsibilities.
  • Maintain production schedules by completing work accurately and efficiently while minimizing downtime.
  • Report equipment issues, quality concerns, and production constraints promptly.
  • Accurately complete production documentation using MSCP's digital manufacturing systems.
  • Maintain material traceability and support inventory accuracy through proper material handling and documentation.
  • Assist with setup changes, tooling organization, and work area housekeeping using Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Collaborate with engineering, planning, procurement, and manufacturing personnel to resolve production issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving safety, quality, and throughput.
  • Maintain compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative, respectful, and team-oriented manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating CNC sheet metal fabrication equipment.
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Brake Presses
    • Fiber Lasers
    • Turret Presses
    • CNC Sheet Metal Equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and fabrication specifications.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing tolerances and quality standards.
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to work within digital manufacturing systems.
  • Forklift or overhead crane experience is considered an asset.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials within safe limits.

  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and measuring equipment.
