As a Unit Clerk in the Emergency Department, you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing critical thinking, problem solving and time management and decision-making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications

Graduated from an approved MOA or Hospital Unit Clerk course. Medical Terminology. 2-years of Emergency hospital experience within the last 5 years. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated critical thinking. this position. This position requires you to be able to bend, push, pull, and lift equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in applications such as Connect Care, Netcare, iECG, REPAC, iRequest, eFacilities, and Siren. Previous experience with staffing liaison responsibilities is an asset.
