About The Role

We are seeking an experienced

Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering team specializing in the design of HVAC, plumbing. This role offers the opportunity to lead a variety of commercial, healthcare, institutional, residential, and mixed-use building projects while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical designs, managing project resources, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for new construction and renovation projects.
  • Manage projects of varying size and complexity while delegating work to designers and junior engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to mechanical designers and intermediate engineers.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Review project requirements and develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Prepare schematic designs, design development reports, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Select mechanical equipment in coordination with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Conduct peer reviews of engineering designs and drawings to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.
  • Perform construction site reviews and provide technical support during project execution when required.
  • Assist with contract administration activities, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, evaluating design changes, and assessing associated costs.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, work progress, and resource allocation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5-10 years of experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings.
  • Professional engineering experience in commercial, healthcare, institutional, residential, or mixed-use projects.
  • Strong understanding of building systems and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian building codes, plumbing codes, and industry standards.
  • Experience preparing engineering reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong project management, leadership, and mentoring skills.
  • Understanding of project financials, including budgets, work-in-progress (WIP), backlog, and resource planning.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
