The General Manager is responsible for leading and managing the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors and to lead ORE to be a financially sustainable Agricultural Society. This is an in-office role.
Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead the Olds Regional Exhibition in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors
- Foster an environment where all employees, volunteers, partners, and guests are respected and appreciated
- Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization’s activities
- Be the spokesperson for the organization
- Represent the organization at events to enhance our relationship within the community
Operational Planning & Management
- Ensure that the operation of ORE meets the expectations of its clients, partners, and Board members
- Provide support to the Board by preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials
Financial Planning & Management
- Prepare a comprehensive budget for the Board and staff to work with
- Work on generating sufficient revenue, in that ORE can be financially sustainable
- Ensure that proper bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed
- Seek out and apply for funding that ORE would qualify for.
Communications
- Communicate with the Board in a timely manner
- Communicate with clients and vendors
- Maintain good working relationships and collaborative agreements with community groups, politicians, funders along with other organizations to help achieve the goals of ORE.
- Elevate a good relationship with the Town of Olds staff
Business Development
- Building Strategic partnerships with companies, organizations and individuals to expand market reach and access new business
- Maintain strong relationships with existing clients to ensure retention and repeat business
Competencies
- Degree or Diploma in Business or related field
- 3+ years of proven success in a leadership role with the ability to inspire the team
- Financial acumen including reporting and accounting
- Knowledge in Board Governance and Board relations
- Project management experience in large and small scopes from identification to completion
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Demonstrated strength in communications; verbal and written with thorough attention to detail
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with business leaders, community leaders, and the public
- Excellent computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint).
- Working in non-profit or agriculture would be considered an asset
