Executive Director at The National Associations Active in Criminal Justice (NAACJ)

Date: 8 hours ago
City: Ottawa, ON
Contract type: Full time

We are hiring an Executive Director! Do you or someone you know have leadership capacity to carry our organization forward? Apply today! See more at: https://naacj.ca/executive-director/

The Ideal Candidate

NAACJ is at an inflection point. Our 50-year strong national organization brings together leadership from across Canada’s leading Non-Governmental Organizations mandated to issues of criminal justice, corrections, and reintegration.

We are seeking a reliable Executive Director (ED) who is both an innovator and builder: someone who can grow our organizational capacity, deepen our standing with government, and knit our member associations more tightly together around shared goals.

What We Value

• Connection and shared awareness: NAACJ succeeds when members are provided opportunities to connect, share, and mobilize.

• Evidence-based advocacy: Positions grounded in research, lived experience, and legal/correctional expertise, going beyond advocacy instinct.

• Successful reintegration as the goal: A belief that Canadian prisons and jails should adhere to the law and foster meaningful opportunities for successful reintegration.

• Credible, durable relationships: Trust built with government partners over time, through consistency and good faith. Having strong lines of communication with relevant government departments and an ability to foster strong government relations is critical for our success.

Strategic Priorities

1. Stably grow our organization: Build the organization in a way that increases revenue and funding diversification, and strengthens procedures systems to meet NAACJ's mandate.

2. Strengthen government relationships: Become a consistent, trusted voice with key government partners (CSC, PBC, Public Safety), and parliamentarians on correctional and parole reform.

3. Connect & mobilize members: Provide reliable and meaningful opportunities to mobilize member associations — aligning strategy, sharing resources, and amplifying the impact of member organizations’ work.

4. Sustain policy leadership: Ensure NAACJ's policy voice stays sharp, current, and ahead of legislative and correctional policy shifts.

The Person We're Looking For

A builder first with the skill, motivation, and flexibility to bring us into a new chapter. We are looking for someone who has grown an organization or coalition before, who is skilled in identifying and obtaining diverse funding sources to increase our financial and organizational health. The ideal candidate is politically fluent enough in government relations, and purpose-driven by the mission of a fair more humane justice system. A flexible, innovative, natural connector.

  • While the position offers a base PTE salary, the Executive Director will be encouraged to identify and apply for additional funding sources to accommodate for the increased capacity and structure that they are being asked to foster in the organization. Success in diversifying NAACJ’s revenue will generate opportunities for increases to the base salary.
