Contract type: Full time

About Nan wúújǫ anawúúdle

We are seeking a visionary and principled Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on behalf of Nan wúújǫ anawúúdle, a precedent-setting organization operating at the intersection of First Nations governance and provincial partnership. The Society leads an Indigenous-led model of managing a $200 million trust fund to restore ecosystems and Blueberry River First Nations’ (BRFN) relationship with the land.

The Role

The CFO will play a vital executive leadership role, responsible for guiding the Society’s financial strategy, investment oversight, compliance, and financial risk management. This position supports the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, and the Society’s Board of Directors, ensuring sound, transparent financial governance aligned with fiduciary responsibilities. Key areas of responsibility include the responsible stewardship of the Nation-led fund, oversight of investment performance, management of program funding disbursement, and the Society’s financial management and reporting. The CFO will lead financial operations, establish and maintain robust financial controls, and align procurement practices with BRFN’s goal for self-determination.

Why This Role Matters

This is a rare opportunity to apply senior financial expertise in service of a mission that blends environmental restoration with Indigenous rights and leadership. The Society’s work is rooted in long-term impact, both for ecosystems and the BRFN community. The role offers meaningful scope in shaping financial systems that serve intergenerational goals of BRFN. The Society represents a precedent-setting partnership between First Nations and the Province, one that is Indigenous-led, policy-grounded, and impact-focused. The Society is led by a committed and thoughtful executive team and Board made up of appointees by both Blueberry River First Nations and the Province.

This role involves stewarding investments in a way that reflects responsible, values-aligned principles grounded in BRFN values, bringing purpose and accountability to the Society’s financial stewardship.

Location and Working Arrangement

While Fort St. John is the preferred location, the Society will consider a strong hybrid candidate. A hybrid arrangement would involve more time on-site in the early months to support and mentor the finance team, moving to a minimum of quarterly in-person attendance at Board meetings once that team member is operating independently.

Working at the Society

Nan wúújǫ anawúúdle is a collaborative, cohesive, and innovative organization that is committed to creating an environment where its people can do their best work. The Society offers structured 90-day onboarding, meaningful professional development and learning opportunities, including support to attend conferences, and a genuine emphasis on work-life balance. The successful candidate will join a supportive and thoughtful executive team, contribute to values-driven work of lasting impact, and have the opportunity to mentor and develop members of the finance function.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will bring a CPA designation, a degree in Accounting or Finance and 10+ years of progressive senior financial leadership. Experience in trust or fund management, nonprofit or public sector finance, and working with a Board of Directors is required. The Society is seeking a technology-forward, tech-savvy CFO with proven experience modernizing financial systems, processes, and controls. Specific experience with systems such as Sage Intacct and Salesforce is a strong asset, as is familiarity with responsible or values-aligned investment, Indigenous governance, and culturally informed financial practices.

How to Apply

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative initiative grounded in Nation-led environmental stewardship and principled financial leadership. For more information about Nan wúújǫ anawúúdle, visit https://restorationsociety.ca/. For more information about WMC visit www.wmc.ca.
