Family Counsellor
ABOUT THE ROLE
Location: Central Commons, 800-1000 7 Ave SW
Hours per week: 15 up to 37.5 Wage: $35.40 - $45.40 per hour
As a member of Carya’s Counselling Team, the Family Counsellor will provide compassionate, client-directed support to children, youth, couples, and families as they navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, and build resilience within the context of their community.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Counselling & Participant Support
- Provide direct counselling services to children, youth, couples, and families with dependents aged 0–24 onsite at Carya.
- Engage participants using a participant-directed, goal-focused, and strengths-based approach.
- Respect each participant’s unique circumstances and right to self-determination while maintaining responsibility for the safety and protection of children and youth.
- Adapt counselling approaches to meet the developmental, relational, and presenting needs of participants and families.
Case Management & Documentation
- Manage an active and varied caseload based on participant, program, funder, and agency needs.
- Manage all stages of the counselling process, including assessment, intervention, closure, follow-up, and documentation.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and complete participant records in accordance with Carya policies and professional standards.
Clinical Practice & Professional Development
- Apply appropriate therapeutic approaches and clinical judgment in response to participant and family needs.
- Stay current with relevant research, evidence-informed practices, ethical standards, and professional guidelines.
- Regularly use clinical supervision and consultation to support reflective practice, sound decision-making, and quality service delivery.
Collaboration & Service Quality
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, natural supports, and other professionals involved in participant care, as appropriate.
- Ensure counselling services align with Carya policies, procedures, ethical requirements, and performance standards.
- Contribute to a collaborative, flexible, and participant-centred Counselling Team.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A master’s degree (MSW, MA, M.Ed., MSc, MC) in psychology, social work or related discipline.
- Membership in good standing with relevant regulatory body.
- Alberta Family Wellness Initiative’s Core Brain Story.
- Minimum of two years of counselling experience, preferably working with children, youth, couples, and families.
- Experience using participant-directed, goal-focused, and strengths-based counselling approaches.
- Experience or training in attachment-informed practice is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to apply therapeutic modalities appropriately and adapt approaches to participant, developmental, and family needs.
- Demonstrated ability to make effective use of clinical supervision and consultation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, other professionals, and natural supports involved in participant care.
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage an active caseload, documentation, competing priorities, and follow-up requirements effectively.
- Completion of the Natural Supports Framework is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Familiarity with case management software, such as Jane, is preferred.
