With approximately 3,300 employees, JBS Food Canada ULC (“JBS Canada”) is one of Canada's largest beef processors. Consisting of four locations—the main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,200 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. At the multi-protein Mountain Creek Farms case-ready facility in Calgary, JBS Canada produces value-added products including marinated, portion sized, multi-pack options, kebabs and much more. JBS Ontario in Belleville produces fresh meat and seafood products for leading retailers in Canada.

We are currently seeking an Accounting Assistant to join our team at our JBS Ontario facility located in Belleville, Ontario. Please note that this is a temporary assignment with an initial 6-month contract, and the possibility of extension.

The Accounting Assistant (contract) supports the accounting team by ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and in accordance with company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Reporting to the Controller, this position provides administrative and analytical support to the Junior and Senior Accountants, assists with financial reporting and account reconciliations, and contributes to period-end processes. The Accounting Assistant will help prepare financial statements and management reports, monitor and analyze yield performance, and collaborate closely with production and supply chain teams to investigate variances and support data-driven decision-making.

NOTE: This temporary 6-month position will be on-site located in Belleville, Ontario, and requires the candidate to be available one weekend per month to support month-end financial tasks and have the ability to work under their own direction with remote management support.

You Will

  • Assist the Junior Account, Senior Accountant and the Controller with preparing financials
  • Provide assistance to the accurate reconciliation of monthly general ledger accounts
  • Assist the Junior Accountant, Senior Accountant and the Controller in period end files
  • As needed, prepares standard and adhoc Management reports for the Controller and/or Management review.
  • Responsible for the daily and weekly monitoring, analysis, and reporting on yield performance. Key is to provide accurate and timely information for decision making by production and management.
  • Works with supply chain and production team to gain an in-depth understanding of yield specifications and fulfill requirements. Based on these specifications, provides analysis and recommendations regarding appropriate action to explain deviations.
  • Other accounting duties as assigned by the Controller.

You Have

  • College diploma or University degree in business or accounting, and/or 1-3 years of related accounting experience. Equivalent levels of education and experience may also apply.
  • Excellent oral communication and customer service skills in dealing with staff and customer representatives. Possesses strong problem-solving, analytical, and organization skills, with strong attention to detail on accounting and bookkeeping matters.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills, a commitment to accuracy, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of SAP accounting software an asset but not required.
