Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Environmental Planner for employment in the Guelph office. The role requires a background in leading environmental assessments (EAs), acquiring environmental permits and coordinating a large, multi-disciplinary team of technical specialists.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead EAs and other environmental approvals and permitting activities for rail and transit projects and manage technical specialists/sub-consultants to deliver the project

  • Liaise with clients, regulatory agencies and project stakeholders, lead meetings, and direct the preparation of meeting materials

  • Deliver high quality products on schedule and within budget, and manage the tracking resources according to schedule and budget

  • Manage, review and author EAs, and other environmental documents related to planning, design and permitting

  • Develop and coordinate consultation programs, including public, stakeholder, regulatory agency and Indigenous engagement

  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree or diploma in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Planning or related field.

Minimum 6 years of experience related to environmental assessments and environmental planning.

Sound understanding of the Transit Project Assessment Process (Ontario Regulation 231/08), and the new Impact Assessment Act and other legislation related to the position

  • Knowledge and familiarity with environmental permits as they relate to cultural heritage, archaeology, species at risk, air, noise, contamination, and hydrogeology.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong leadership and negotiation abilities.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills, report writing skills, ability to work well with a team as well as independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to plan and prioritize work to manage multiple assignments at one time, and ensure client satisfaction for all project submittals.

Master’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Planning or related.

Full member or eligibility for full membership in a professional body (e.g. Registered Professional Planner (RPP and MCIP); or Canadian Environmental Professional (EP)

Familiarity with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation

Knowledge of other relevant Ontario Legislation and Provincial Policy.
