Job Summary


AECOM is seeking a full-time team member to join our fast-growing Canadian Environment Health & Safety practice as a Senior Environment, Health & Safety Consultant. The immediate assignment is to deliver the following environment, health & safety services to AECOM’s key clients in various industries (oil & gas, energy, mining, construction, manufacturing, commercial/retail) in Western Canada:


  • Performing Environment, Health & Safety Compliance (EHS) Audits;


  • Providing EHS regulatory compliance support services;


  • Developing and executing EHS training (compliance and management system focused);


  • Conduct occupational health and safety program consulting –management system, construction safety, occupational hygiene and infection control.

The appropriately qualified candidate will have 8 + years of working experience in the services listed above. Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and auditing environment and/or health & safety management systems, performing phase I due diligence assessments, executing hazardous building material surveys and other occupational hygiene related services are an asset. This position comes with the opportunity to manage EHS projects and assist in the growth of the EHS practice in western Canada. The candidate must be highly motivated and accountable, work remotely with other team members, and be an effective communicator. The candidate must also possess strong technical writing and verbal communication skills. Organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities.


  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge.


  • Makes recommendations on work methods and procedures and technical innovations by devising practical and economical solutions to problems in own discipline.


  • Makes recommendations on research requests, objectives, priorities, and timing.


  • Assess need for change and recommends development of standards.


  • Assess work against standards, objectives and specifications.


  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies when working on unusually complex technical problems.


  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.


  • Develops solutions which are highly innovative. Assignments are often self-initiated. Acts as advisor to management and clients. Oversees the work of less experienced scientists.

Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree + 8 years of experience OR demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications


  • Post-secondary degree, diploma or degree in environmental management/science or health & safety;


  • At least 8 years experience in EHS in western Canada;


  • Practical experience in oil & gas, energy, mining, construction, manufacturing, and commercial/retail sectors;


  • Expert knowledge in Canadian EHS legislation in British Columbia & Alberta, Canada;


  • Knowledge of Canadian EHS legislation in other Canadian provinces and territories (Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut);


  • Experience working for a consulting engineering company;


  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018;


  • Any of the following certifications/designations: CRSP, CSP, ROH, CIH, EP(CEA), EMS(LA)


  • Familiarity working with EHS Management Information Systems (e.g. Gensuite, Enablon, Velocity, Intelex, etc.)


  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel).


  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently;


  • Ability to work in both field and office environments;


  • Must possess a valid class 5 (AB/BC) driver’s license and vehicle.


  • Travel will be required to service our clients in Western Canada, with potential to other provinces as required.
