The primary purpose of the International Import Specialist role is to provide real time visibility to all team members, by leading the administration of the flow of finished goods and raw materials from Intermarket Supply sources to Nestlé Canada Inc. Ensuring full compliance to Canadian Import regulations and Nestlé Quality Standards is achieved.


Major Responsibilities


Track import shipments from origin to final destination:



  • Timely receipt of shipment details from shipper- real time visibility of shipment details from shipper
  • Effective review of sailing details from the steamship line/s


  • Timely update of import tracking spreadsheets


  • Efficient review of import documents & forwarding to Canadian custom broker


  • Proactive notice to receiving distribution centre of estimated time of arrival


  • Prompt payment of all charges related to shipment (supplier invoice)

Administration of Import Specialty:



  • Effective maintenance of the ocean log and ocean container trackers


  • Timely container ETA updates of import movements internally


  • Ensure lowest cost and service through ongoing freight and accessorial audits


  • Timely delivery of all Import Speciality shipments to meet case fill requirements


  • Timely inbound speciality administration to ensure customer payment collection, matching container arrival to customer invoicing


  • Efficient creation and maintenance of General Shipping Instructions for all Import Specialty products

Expedite customs clearance and arrange local cartage:



  • Timely forwarding of the Canada customs invoice to the Customs Broker
  • Proactively follow-up with local cartage company (if any pick-up issues)


  • Work with the local cartage company & the receiving DC for prompt delivery


  • Negotiations to reduce or eliminate demurrage/detention charges where applied

Manage Canada Border Service Agency and Canadian food Inspection issues:



  • Compliancy to CBSA and CFIA - Action any issues related to import documentation


  • Timely review and updating of all pertinent data in the import tracking spreadsheet

Monthly Reporting:



  • Efficient review and action of savings reports
  • Preparation of in transit reports


  • Reactive preparation and submission of discrepancy information for compliance purposes - declared value vs. payment value


  • Efficient review of IMS briefs

Demonstrated value creation through a Lean Enterprise Mindset:



  • NQMA ready through the use of NCE tools and standardized work
  • Lean Value stream executed with supplier/partners and customers
  • Contribution to deliver yearly OPEX targeted impacts and/or can demonstrate results of pull and flow by reduction of waste i.e. TIMWOOD
  • NCE foundations gates are open and can demonstrate improvements in sustainability

Qualifications



  • Minimum 5 years of International Trade & Customs experience


  • Post Secondary Education in Business, Commerce, or Transportation


  • Designation or equivalent experience:


  • CIFFA Certification – Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association Certification


  • CCLP Designation – CITT (Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation) - Certified Logistics Designation


  • CCS or CTCS Designation - Certified Customs Specialist


  • Sound knowledge of Transportation Administration


  • End-to-end understanding of Import/Export Custom Compliance


  • Relevant operational experience at market/business level, in the following areas:


  • Customs Tariff knowledge


  • Global Transport


  • To be able communicate with internal/external customers, understand safety/ health issues and Nestle quality principles.


  • Knowledge of SAP, customs compliance, Excel, Word, Basic Accounting


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Results focused with a strong service orientation, and strong organizational, and planning skills
