Job Description

Our Group Benefits area is looking for an experienced, energetic and highly self- motivated individual to assume the role of Director Pharmacy Benefits. This role will be based in Toronto, Montreal or Kitchener-Waterloo. The successful candidate will be bilingual (French and English), with excellent presentation and communication skills. You will demonstrate a high degree of comfort working with multiple stakeholders across the pharmaceutical and benefits value chain including sales partners, benefits consultants and advisors, plan sponsors (clients), pharmacies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and government. As the Director of Pharmacy Benefits you will:

Business Development

  • Act as primary liaison between the Product area and all national sales offices to support our clients (consultants, advisors and plan sponsors) during finalist presentations, regular service meetings, product implementations and client-specific analysis

  • Conduct client-specific analysis and use your insights to help clients better understand their benefit plans

  • Use your excellent influencing skills to generate awareness and promote the product suite and support product launches with multiple stakeholder groups

Product Development & Management

  • Act as a subject matter expert for product development and other head office initiatives.

  • Ensure seamless communication with internal business partners to clearly articulate client needs, opportunities or threats

  • Contribute to building strategy and developing a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape

Thought Leadership & Stakeholder Relationships

  • Represent Manulife externally as a subject matter expert, delivering thought leadership at key industry and stakeholder events

  • Act as the primary point of contact for pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, associations and governing bodies


  • A licensed pharmacist in good standing with the provincial licensing

  • Drug claims adjudication and Group Health benefits experience would be an asset

  • Strong working knowledge of the regulatory environment for pharmacy benefits

  • Ability to work independently and ability to travel within North America

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills

  • Proven client relationship management and interpersonal skills to develop strong relationships with clients

  • 3+ years Pharmacy experience

  • Bilingualism is required (French & English)


  • Superior customer service skills

  • Working knowledge of group benefits products, plan designs, provincial pharmacare programs

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to clearly convey complex information in a concise manner.

  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Excellent analytical skills with aptitude for figures and great attention to detail

  • Motivated, quick-learner who works well individually and as a member of a team
