Position Title: Manager, Group Administration

Reports To: Director, Group Administration and Enablement

Department: Group Claims

Term: Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

In this role, you’ll be crucial to the success and productivity of the team. You’ll provide direction, support, and motivate your team. You’ll identify new ways of serving our clients, identify process improvement opportunities and represent the department in future initiatives.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead the Group Benefits Administration team in partnership with two other managers, which includes Plan Member administration, Billing, Medical Underwriting, Client Service and Web Support for Plan Members, Plan Administrators and Advisors, Third Party Administration Support, and administration of our myFlex product.
  • Accountable for people leadership and process effectiveness (including supporting technology)
  • Develop and establish strategies and plans for the Group Benefits Administration team to meet department, divisional and corporate goals
  • Own the Plan Administrator web site and ensure it continues to evolve in line with customer needs and expectations as well as competitor developments.
  • Oversees client support for all three group websites: plan administrator, plan member and advisor
  • Prepare a department budget and manage against it with a focus on reducing unit costs while meeting service deliverables
  • Develop and implement training programs for new and existing staff and support quality audits to ensure Group Benefits Administration team members meet quality standards
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and external policies and oversee the development and administration of the Group Benefits Administration area’s policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines (i.e. privacy legislation, employment laws, CLHIA guidelines)
  • Recruit and develop a professional team capable of providing consistently high levels of quality service. Ensure team members have annual scorecards with appropriate goals, coach team members for day-to-day performance as well as development, conduct performance reviews, and address performance issues
  • Resolve escalated client issues

What you will bring:

  • Post secondary education or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • At least 3+ years relevant management experience in a service-related field
  • Sound understanding of insurance principles and group contracts, and the ability to balance client requests and risk management
  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to foster teamwork and collaboration, and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Strong people management abilities, skilled in mentoring and coaching staff in a highly demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, analytical, decision-making, and verbal and written communication skills
