About This Role

As a Funeral Director and Embalmer at Avalon Surrey Funeral Home, located in Surrey, British Columbia, you will have the opportunity to provide meaningful support to families on their end-of-life journey. This includes respectful decedent care, expert embalming services, and overseeing all aspects of funeral services. Responsibilities include filing death certificates, maintaining online obituary listings, performing embalming, and assisting during funeral services.

Job Type: Full Time Permanent

Key Qualifications And Demonstrated Abilities

  • Possesses a Funeral Director Embalmer license and has 1 to 5 years of experience as a licensed Funeral Director Embalmer.
  • Displays proven, superior arrangement, directing and embalming skills.
  • Passion for customer care demonstrated in previous professional experiences.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistently high level of accuracy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills with the ability to partner will all levels of the organization.
  • Exemplifies Arbor’s values of compassion, integrity, trust, teamwork, belonging and excellence.
  • Excellent knowledge of Funeral Home procedures and business practices including Funeral Home Procedures Manuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Arranges, coordinates and directs funeral ceremonies.
  • Meets and surpasses the needs and expectations of the families we serve.
  • Maintains active involvement within the community and is committed to building and establishing effective relationships and rapport.
  • Arranging the transfer of the decedent from the place of death and/or going to place of death and performing the transfer.
  • Preparing the decedent according to the wishes of the survivors and requirements of the law including transferring the decedent from stretcher to preparation table, washing, arterial and cavity embalming or basic preparation. Clothing the decedent and transferring the decedent from the preparation table to casket.
  • Completing and maintaining all related documentation, including but not limited to embalming reports and decedent logs.
  • Arranging the transfer of the decedent to and from the crematorium.
  • Ensuring all legal and ethical requirements are communicated to the staff and fully adhered to.
