Reporting to Senior Manager, Hardware Engineering as a Senior Power Hardware Engineer, you will be part of an experienced engineering team that develops product-level power systems, subcomponent power designs, and circuit pack power designs for Ciena’s leading Packet Optical Transport, Data Center Interconnect and Switching products.

You will be mentored by senior power specialists and work closely with system architects, electrical circuit pack, and mechanical design teams to develop designs from concept and introduction to manufacturing. This includes design, documentation, component and system testing, collaborating with software teams for performance issues, and to manufacturing teams for hardware build issues.

  • You will design high performance circuit pack level power solutions (schematics and layouts), and work with hardware design primes to implement on their circuit packs.
  • You will be responsible for designing DC power interface modules and cooling systems for platforms.
  • You will partner with hardware and mechanical design, as well as external supply partners to realize power hardware designs and with suppliers, corporate and manufacturing procurement organizations to deliver products and sub-systems into production.
  • You will verify system and sub-component design with engineering and production prototypes.

The Must Haves

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree coupled with extensive experience in system power and grounding design, power component circuit pack design, and product development cycle experience.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills across multiple disciplines in Hardware development, manufacturing, test engineering, and with external suppliers.
  • Experience in mentoring fellow engineers for team building, project management, and development projects in power hardware design.
  • Proven project management knowledge.
  • Experience with power lab test equipment, measurement techniques and product development experience in microelectronic power.
  • Familiarity with OEM design partnerships and co-developments, PCB schematic capture and layout tools.
  • Proven track record working with domain experts in mechanical, power, thermal, hardware, software and systems for platform developments.
  • 15 years’ combined experience in key areas of System Power and Grounding design, Power Component Circuit pack design, and Product Development cycle experience.

Assets

  • Postgraduate in Electronics or Micro Electronics Power.
  • Customer site power and grounding and Knowledge of power and ground design standards for Telcordia and Data center customers.
  • Optical Product development experience.
